What should i start a class bussiness for? -

For a class, we have to create a business, what should my business be?i was thinking maybe a bakery?any more great ideas :)

Try picking something you are familiar with. If you love baking then yes. You will need to work up all the numbers and requirements for starting such a business

What time should I put an auction for ebay up if I want to get the most people? -

I want to put an auction to end when the most people (globally) are on.So what time is the best so I can cover the most countries?

From Powerseller status experience, end the auction on a Sunday night between 7-9 pm

It s not as much when you put it up as when the auction will end. I assume you re thinking of running your auction for 7 days. I have placed items up for 7 days that got not bids until the last couple of days. And I ve put up 3 day auctions that did better than 7 day ones.Lot s of people think late Sunday is the best day to end an auction in the U.S. I ve been running eBay auctions for years and I actually have more luck with Monday evenings. Apparently many people don t discover an auction until Sunday, then watch it until Monday evening. If you re aiming for a bidders in a particular country, check it s time zone. Obviously, there would not be an ideal end time for the entire world.

Surprised by the answers so far...I say 9PM Central, Tues/Wed/Thurs. Not too late for central or east coasters, after business hours on the west coast. As for days of the week... Mondays are bad for everyone, and Fridays and Saturdays are usually busy or relaxed, neither good for auctions. Maybe Sunday night, never tried.

I would think around 9AM EST.

On a balance sheet would you put the cost of your inventory as what you paid for it or what you can sell it...? -

for or the profit you make on it Thanks :) - new to this.

Closing stock should, in the broadest terms, be valued at whichever is LOWER of cost paid or achievable value.Obviously, as the above poster pointed out, you would actually generally use an accounting policy for valuing your stock, usually AVCO or FIFO (never LIFO, it s now illegal in most countries and against international accounting practises).

The balance sheet has to reflect a true and fair view so the value of your stock would be whatever it is worth as it stands in the open market. That is not necessarily what you paid for it as its value might have gone down and it is likely to be less than the expected retail value (which includes profit margin). There are conventions for keeping a running estimate of stock value (FIFO, LIFO and AvCo ... maybe others since I studied bookkeeping many years ago) though these are no substitute for a proper periodic valuation. If your only choice is between cost price, selling price and profit element, I suggest you use cost price.

Cost priceCost price is a known fact. What you sell it for is an unknown amount (or might end up at a loss).

If I paid for shipping online why would I have to pay for it at the post office? -

and if thats the case do I need to pay for it online? The lady I go to keeps charging me to ship items that I sell after I ve paid for it already.

It sounds like, however you re calculating your shipping costs online, you re not doing it properly. You re obviously not paying enough to generate the preprinted label, if you have to pay more at the post office.Without knowing exactly what you re doing, we can t tell you what you re doing wrong. Are you weighing the items you re mailing? Are you weighing them correctly, after they re all wrapped and packaged for mailing?

Then you are screwing something up.If you can t figure out what you are doing wrong, don t pay online.

How do you sell something like a very good soup to a local store? -

Well, You can t be making your very good soup in your home kitchen or any ktichen that isn t certifed and approved by your local Department of Health. You are not allowed to sell food you prepare at home, except under limited circumstances, and no big food chain is going to buy your soup if you can t provide proof of certification. If you make the soup in a certified commercial kitchen you can try marketing it in the fashion mentioned by the previous answerer.

I work for the Kroger Chain of stores. The chain includes such grocery stores as Dillons, Kroger, Pay Less, King Soopers, Smiths, JayC, Fred Meyer, Baker s, City Market, Food 4 Less, Gorbes, Fry s, Hilander, Scotts, QFC, and Owen s. If you want to sell a really good soup to a local store all you would have to do is call up the corporate headquarters; ours is in indiana, And talk to a merchandising head. A few tips before you call. 1) they are going to want to know what your selling2) Why you want to sell it at their stores3) how you plan to mass produce it4) your sales plan5) and your distribution plansif you can answer these and maybe a few more they might have, your product could go up for a board discussion and if approved you might possible be eligible for a partnership with our chain.

How do you start a store on amazon? -

Just looking for a good basic outline of the process in general, but any additional advice would be graciously appreciated, :)

Perhaps you could first work on your online etiquette, seeing as all of your answers are rude and troll-like.

How can my local magazine combat a new rival magazine thats backed by millions with a mission to put me out? -

Here is the Skinny. I have a magazine that I started and it now has about 50 advertisers. When I started it, the local media (who compete for the same ad dollars) was in support. Kind of a go ahead and try it, laugh it off, ill never make it thing. Well now that I have printed one each month for over a year and got my client list up, they are pissed. They is the newspaper. It is owned by a larger company that has nearly twenty newspapers across the country. So, im cutting into their market share and the head office tells the local paper here to launch a magazine. It can be said they did it as a good business move but honest truth is my publication was targeted. (People who work there told me they have meetings where my magazine is the focus and the big boss is always coming in for them.)There magazine doesn t have my quality but they have a huge sales force and money to back it up, they can afford to print thicker, pay more employees to get content and even loose money if they have to. I started mine with nothing and do not have much reserve capital. I have ran my cost close to revenue to make sure the magazine is always as good as possible (Pages, number of issues, etc.) The lower quality is being turned into a marketing tool, lol actually clever here, they are calling it the Older generations magazine and trying to make it out like mine is for kids. Which it isnt. I just have have fresh and modern graphic design and layouts. There sales people are bad mouthing my publication, under cutting my prices and targeting my clients. I ran a fake ad with a cell number just to see if they would call... they did.So, while I can do the whole, Just keep making a good magazine and stay positive thing, I was hoping someone would have a few ideas. I even tried to think of a movei where something like this happened in an effort to emulate the success of the underdog chericter but I can t think of one lol.Any ideas? (P.S. I promise I am not just crying about competition. This is really a dirty game here.)

I would need more information on nature of magazine, target segment etcFew things I can think of I would advise you to try and get your customers in to subscription so that you secure them.Since your competitor has ample money manpower your way out is only through quality content.Try to cater better to the needs of locals, provide some unique insights, human mind is the most powerful tool unleash yours. On the other side try not to lose out on advertisers.Try providing add ons through your website or email.

Capitalism is a *****

look for investors so you can compete on a fair level.or just continuing working on it and see if the other company gets bored.most newspapers are going bankrupt, they do not have millions to spend on opening a magazine, or hiring extra people, and certainly don t have money to loose. Opening a news magazine is not the way for them to make a profit. Maybe your local market doesn t know this but the higher ups do.A perfect example: In 2007 the Orange County Register (OC, CA) opened a magazine called the OC Post geared to be sort of the USA Today but regional. It lasted only months. Since then the newspaper has laid off hundreds of people. That newspaper is still open. But there are many more that aren t Chicago Sun, Denver Post, San Jose Review etc.

The question is really how effective is your magazine in producing results for your advertisers. Do a study of some important customers on how effective your magazine is for them? What is their return on investment when they place ads in your magazine? Are they getting better quality customers as a result of using your magazine? Are you delivering a better demographic? It all comes down to numbers ... show how you can be more effective than your competition and why you care about them (vs. just running ads).

Call or write everyone of those 50 loyal customers. Let them know you understand there may be alternative advertising being offered. You have proved yourself, they are just getting started.Believe me your customers, understand competition. Let them know your not rolling over, your willing to go the extra mile on their artwork, copy, ideas, anything to make your magazine the one with value added services no huge salesforce or deep pockets can match. Give what you can, extra months of adds, extra copy lines. Year end rebates for staying with you.If you do the above. I can almost guarantee if you build it, they will come . Establish an advertiser hot line, any advertiser that calls in advertising successes and leaves a full report for other potential advertisers to review, with name and dates....gets something free....!!!!!!!
