Starting up a small business any advice? -

I ve been trying to start up a computer repair business, work so far is slow but steady. Its hard to get publicity when advertising is so expensive and you don t have a lot of money to start with.So what s the cheapest way to advertise? And does anyone have any other advise about making this a success?Thanks

I had a small business with my brother a few years back. It was hard to determine who the boss was as my brother had me acting as CEO while he was working for an insurance agency. I put a great deal of time and effort and ran the business without a hitch until Christmas time came around and he wanted me to have the company give him 500 dollars. Without working one day at the office he wanted or more correctly demanded 500 dollars. I was shocked he did what he did. Needless to say when you are up against my brother, he is able to lie and cheat his way to get his way. The whole point of this story is..don t do business with family. If it is your idea and your capital that is being used, then you call all the shots. If it fails then you have no one to blame but yourself. I wish our business would have been successful but with greed comes envy. I wish my brother had the sense God gave him to be a successful businessman but all he can ever be is a subordinate. He is determined to work for someone else for the rest of his life. That s all he can do! I wish him the best.

Looking for funding to start up a new business in the South West of England. Where do I begin? -

its hard enough to keep businesses open here in the south west as it is without trying to start up something new. 3 factorys have closed in last 2 years where i live losing 400 jobs. maybe u should try internet shop first

Is it a hard job? Does it pay well?

its basically just a more politically correct word for secretary. they do things like:-answer the phone-transfer calls-call people to set up phone or in person meetings-take messages-keep schedules and appointments organized-work on the computer-file papers-fax documents-greet people that come in and tell them how to get to the correct room etc....i had a summer job as a receptionist and it was hard at first but once i got used to everything it became easier but it is still stressful cuz you don t want to screw anything up.the pay is usually not much more than minimum wage but it depends on if you are in a public or private company.

I wouldn t say that it is hard. Answer phones usually multi-line phone, transfer calls correctly take messages, greet customers, bring coffee or what ever is needed, make appointments. The pay depends on what the company is and what state you are in.

Also process the mail, distribute it to the right people. Various other paperwork and administrative duties.
