We are a small independent retailer and despite the credit crunch the shop has been incredibly busy. My question is can anybody recommend any courses or books that would help with my understanding of book keeping and general business management? Any help and advise would be great!!

If you re in the UK, it s worth speaking to your local Business Link. They run seminars (often free) that help you understand business finance and management better. Their website is helpful, too.

A friendly Accountant will show you all this. Mine did, and now I do everything from payroll to the Company Accounts. I had no formal training, just help and advice from my Accountant.

I need your help. My husband and I want to start a business.? -

My husband was let go of his job, he is doing odd jobs doing drywall and making okay money. He had his own drywall company years ago but didn t pay taxes and I m sure it wasn t very legal . My question is...We would very much like to start a Drywall company, pay taxes, be insured, hire staff etc...Where do I start? I live in Stafford Virginia and am wondering if anyone knows of any helpful sites or maybe you have started your own company and could point me in the right direction. I just need a starting point. All I am doing at this moment is posting drywall ads on craigslist but if we can get a company going I would invest in more gear and tools and put everything into this. As the job volume goes up, you run an ad for subcontractors, must have their own truck, tools, insurance and so on (so there are no employees).7. With a steady flow of jobs, your husband stops doing the work takes on the estimates, quality control, and running of the business.

B-Lust has a good guidleline however....Do Not put ads in the yellowpages....that is the biggest waste of money there is...only get yourslef listed in there...I can guarantee you that in one years time you will not ever have more than 12 customers from it...I ll bet a years income on that fact.The same money you put into the yellowpages waiting for someone to open the book and see your ad ( amongs all your competition no less) you can send out 1000 post card a month directly to the specific types of people who will use your service.

15 articles in your home that were manufactured in countries other than Canada? -

Pretty much everything in my home is manufactured in a country other than Canada. I ve got T-shirts, shoes and socks that are made in Canada, and my sofa as well, besides that all the electronics are either Chinese, Japanese or Korean, all the utensils are Chinese, all the toys that my kids play with are Chinese..It s becoming harder and harder to find things that are actually made in Canada. Manufacturing in Canada is definitely suffereing.

I work at home with my husband managing our small but successful business firm, which is a pleasure most of the time. We work long draining hours, and sometimes I am just not in the mood to speak with friends that call me. Im in my late 20 s, and a lot of friends that call me dont have much going on in their lives because they are either out of work, or are wanting to vent about their problems in life. I am all for being a friend but lately I have been passing up on answering their calls.Meanwhile: I got in touch with an old childhood friend. I havent even seen her in over 15 years. We ve seen each others photos on facebook/etc and have talked several times throughout 2009, having a great time on the phone with continual laughs and memories. I called her last night and got her voicemail to which I LOVE the message. She said; Hey, its Celina, I cant answer my phone right now because im working, or I m simply busy, leave a message and I ll get back to you I LOVED it because its so realistic and different than all of the others hundreds of voicemails i ve heard throughout the years.I told her last night that I loved her voicemail and that its the best one of heard in my life and how i m gonna use it one day. But I was kind of saying sarcastically, I guess...she then responded with how she s heard a lot of them (hiring people and such) and told me some of the worst ones she s ever heard. She really has a great personality, and I dont really think she would care. None of my friends/colleagues know her...so they wouldnt know if I coppied it...only her. I dont think she would care, but is there any way to change it around? I just love the way hers is word for word....Whudya think?

I love the Avon Anew Clinical products and think the eye creme and gel are awesome and the micro exfoliant 2nd to none. Anew Clinical is pricey though (here in Aus anyway) so I wouldn t recommend letting Avon send you Opportunity Packs with a hundred dollars worth of product which will be hard to sell on the spot. Just brochures with a sample or two will bait customers. You ll be surprised how hard it is to sell even the cheap stuff right now. An example - I left 8 brochures in a nursing home staff dining room, each brochure had two or three samples inside - one perfume sample and two samples of new fantastic skin products. I didn t receive so much as a nibble. When I went back I found one of the brochures flying around and it looked like it had been read to death and the samples were gone but like I said, not a nibble.
