Not a good idea. People who buy high-end stuff don t want to be associated with stores that sell low-end products. You might do ok on the low-end side, but you are killing the high-end side. You won t see Gucci affiliating with Wal-Mart. High-end retailers must protect their brand by keeping away from low-end retailers. If you want to sell at both ends of the spectrum, do it in different stores.

High and low end are two seperate markets and target audience. I will suggest do not mix both of them. Stick with only one (Either go High end or Low end) depending on where you are opening you shop. Overtime pay if you take a vacation day that week? -

Say i normally work 40 hours a week (8 hrs/day X 5 days a week). Last week I took 3 days (24 hours) of vacation. During the other 2 days I worked I worked 12 hour days. So if you add my vacation time in to my hours worked the total number is 48 hours. My question is, should I get paid overtime for those 8 hours? I say no. That you cannot use paid time off to push you into overtime. You only pay overtime for actual hours worked. Other people at my company say it is over 40 hours a week so you have to pay them. You actually have to WORK 40 hours to get overtime. Being paid for 40 isn t the same as working 40.

It depends what state you are in. If you are in daily overtime state, then yes. (CA, NV, etc). Most likely you aren t.In 40 hour a week overtime states, the company does not need to pay you for that overtime. But based on company policy they could pay you.

Under federal regulations only time actually worked above 40 hours per week is subject to overtime. In your example there is no overtime because you only worked 24 hours.

Without knowing what your business is, that s actually a really good way to improve morale whilst cutting hours. Another interesting idea, depending on the situation, might be to have some of the workers work from home some of the time. As long as they are not needed in the office, having a day or two that is a work from home day might improve their morale, even if it means that they are taking work home with them. There are quite a few companies that are cutting back on travel, as a cost saving measure. If you can do that, there will be significant savings for the company right there. Many large companies are seeing savings of 15 to 25% of their budget, just by reducing the amount of travel that is allowed.

You have to start thinking S-M-A-R-T. What kind of cutbacks can you make? For example: I drink bottled water. Paying $1 a bottle on something that covers over 65% of our planet is not smart. So I bought one of those water filters that screw into your faucet. I have bottles that I refil over and over again. This doesn t take much time and you will reduce your carbon footprint as a bonus. Do you have a lot of small appliances around the house that are always on? Televisions, subwoofers, computers, modems, sterio equipment and microwaves use the most energy when they are left plugged into the outlet, even when they are turned off. Plug all your plugs from entertainment system into those 6 prong outlet plugs with the switch on them. When you are not using these items shut the switch off. I noticed a huge difference on my electric bill just by doing this. I also bought some of those florescent bulbs that look a lot like a regular bulb. These things use 80% less electricity than regular bulbs. Ave 60Watt incalescent bulb (old school) runs you 2 cents per hour. Ave 60Watt energy bulb averages 0.5 cents per hour. Wanna be creative? Find yourself leaving lights on? Buy a motion sensor switch, the lights will turn on when you enter the room and will turn off (by a set amount of time) when you leave the room.
