At what point do I register a small business? -

If I only do freelance work, not on a permanent basis, then surely I don t need to register as a business yet? So when do I need to do it, is it when my income reaches a certain point, is it when I start doing it full time, or maybe when I start employing?I m in South-Africa, if that makes a difference.(Please don t use too big words, I m new to this scene)

Registering a business can help you with tax benefits if available in your country. It also depends on the amount of regular income that your freelance work gives you.If your work is purely online then you don t need to register a business. But once:1. your income crosses the taxable limit, or2. you start getting more clients doing regular billing, or3. you employ new people to help you out, registering a small business will be useful.

Can an employer make you work for free? -

my employer paid me holiday pay 3 times this year by mistake. they want to recoup the money by making me work for free for 30 hours. Is this illegal for them to make work for free and dock my paycheck?

Wow isn t your employer a bad un . Tsk tsk just what is AMERICA coming down to and what would the father founders have to say about THAT, hey?

If they have overpaid you then they (unfortunately) have the right to ask for this money back. So you are not really working for free, you have already been paid for the 30 hours work.

They cannot do both. Either you work for free for the 30 hours OR they can garnish your wages, but NOT both.

They re not making you work for free . They ve already paid you in advance for this time! You owe it to them.

Just GIVE THE MONEY BACK then, you pillock.

Hosting a seminar, how am I supposed to give my handouts quot;outquot;? In a folder? Binder? -

I am holding a seminar about Medicare geared towards Attorneys. I have some materials that I would like to hand out to the attorneys but I can t decide if I should use expensive presentation folders, print them and have someone bind them, or just print them and staple them together. Also, am I supposed to give out pens and little promotional items. I really don t have the budget for it.

I d use cheap paper cover / folders , available in bulk from any office supply store. Are we talking a dozen pages, or closer to a hundred? And how many people are attending? Dozens? Hundreds?Remember, most of the stuff you ll actually present. The handout is just for reference stuff. Promo items... I d skip that. Tschotkes are so 1990 s. What I d actually hand out is ELECTRONIC version of what you re presenting. Either the PowerPoint show or the video on miniCD or regular CD. You can easily burn like 30-40 copies yourself in a couple hours, unless you have like HUNDREDS attending (guess not).

Can I use this as my business name if it already exists somewhere else? -

I am starting a business from home where I ll be catering, making cakes, and other pastries. I want to name my business peace of cake with the peace sign as my logo. I googled this business name and there are a few other bakeries with this name but in other states. I also did the trademark search to see if it was a trademarked name, and it says that it s trademarked by a clothing company in New York. So, could I still use this name for my business name?

The clothing company wouldn t necessarily be an issue but the following mark might be: http://tarr.uspto.gov/servlet/tarr?regseDetermining if marks infringe can be tricky and each situation varies from another. The general rules to keep in mind are:1) Are the names similar in Sound, Appearance or Meaning?2) Are the industries the same or similar to one another?3) Are the names confusingly similar to the average consumer? In other words, could customers be confused and assume that both companies are affiliated?4) Do the trade areas cross? What about the advertising routes -- are the products/services advertised in common places? Here s what the USPTO has to say about this matter: The principal factors considered by the examining attorney in determining whether there would be a likelihood of confusion are:the similarity of the marks; and the commercial relationship between the goods and/or services listed in the application. To find a conflict, the marks do not have to be identical, and the goods and/or services do not have to be the same. It may be enough that the marks are similar and the goods and/or services related. It s best to contact a private search company or a trademark attorney to assist you in determining if this will be a problem or not.Hope that helps! I wish you much success happiness in all your ventures!

It sounds like you answered your own question with your question. You want to start a company with a name that is already trademarked and is being used by several other baking companies.Maybe you should pick a different name or you are just setting yourself up for major problems down the road. Each one of the companies does have the right to take you to court. The baking companies because they are already established and in the same industry as you. The clothing company also because they have the name trademarked.

As long as you keep your business as a DBA. If you ever try to incorporate your business they will do a name search and require your INC to have a different name. However you could do POC Inc Doing Bus. As Peace of Cake

yes because the other name is of a clothing company n your business is entirely different. this is as per indian law

You risk getting into trouble so avoid it.http://peaceofcake.comMaybe adding a to make a peace of cake http://apeaceofcake.com

If I register a trademark, name and logo. Do I have to pay taxes on selling products? -

Opening a small @ home business under sole proprietorship. I would like to register my logo and name as a trademark. So it s mine and I can use it on my products and have full rights over the logo and name. If I do this will I need to pay taxes on selling my products?

Trademarks / copyrights have nothing to do with taxes. You have to charge / pay sales tax for items you sell within states you operate in. You have to pay income tax, social security etc. on personal and business income depending on the type of business you operate.

do you have a tax i.d. #??? trademarks dont have anything to do with taxes--but chances are if you re selling something you are profiting , in which case uncle sam wants to be paid.

What are the advantages and disadvangtages of starting a franchise business? -

As a franchise consultant, one of the most important questions any first-time potential business owner asks me is whether to start their own new venture or to look at franchising. The answer has many components attached to it that need attention. Let s review some of those considerations.Starting up a new mom and pop type business is statistically very risky. Numerous studies have been conducted on this subject, and the general consensus indicates that 90-95% of new independents fail within two or three years. The steep learning curve that is involved can be a killer all by itself. The few who do succeed in this business model typically have an extremely high level of expertise in their product or service. They ve lived it all their lives. When it comes to franchising, however, much of the risk is reduced, or even eliminated. Although there are no guarantees, this business model is as close as you ll come to a guarantee of success. The same studies show that new franchise business startups rarely fail. The reason for this, quite simply, is because the often very long exercise of trial and error has already been done so many times that it s reached the inevitable point of trying and succeeding. The franchiser has made it through the learning curve and, along the way, has developed the success secrets for that business. Those who fail in franchising almost always were not committed to following the franchiser s systems. The main reason you buy a franchise is to minimize risk and to set yourself up for success. Traditionally, in a new startup, independent business, you are almost always operating from a shoot from the hip mentality, which can lead to failure. There is no past experience to draw upon, and it becomes challenging to control all aspects of the business. With a good, successful franchise model, you open yourself up to a deluge of information regarding all aspects of information, including financial assistance, site selection, and a wealth of knowledge from existing franchisees. Also, rapid growth is inevitable with the franchise model, which is only a good thing for a franchisee for many reasons, such as increased name/brand recognition and exposure to national advertising campaigns, which increase sales. Tremendous buying power because of constant expansion is also a major plus. Of course, the key is to follow the proven system of success, so your creativity can be somewhat lessened. In addition, you will have to pay a franchise fee and an ongoing royality, and your individual ability to make changes to the franchise is reduced dramatically. To summarize, franchising greatly reduces risk, enables you to follow a proven, successful system, and increases your chances of success in business exponentially. I ve written numerous articles on franchising which may be of further assistance to you: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Cory_Ba

The main advantages of buying into a franchise as a small business are the large name(it s familiarity with the general public), free or low cost training and materials. Main disadvantages are that you are signing in to a binding contract so you will owe the franchisor even if you go belly up, Paper work up the wahoo, you must obey certain guidelines, it s not a true property of your own.

Advantages:Proven business modelImmediate name recognitionPlanning and implementation support from the franchise headquartersDisadvantages:Initial costRoyalties paid to the franchise headquartersLack of flexibility (If you wish to depart from the business model of the franchise, you might find yourself in violation of the franchise agreement.)

Davide405s answer was right on, but I just wanted to add one advantage. Banks are typically more willing to loan money to open a franchise business, because of the proven business model and support you receive.

How can i make money!!!? -

I want to make money........and FAST! I don t get payed for doing chores. So please help!!!

It sounds like you might be too young to get a real job. Try asking to get paid for chores. If that does not work take a look at what you: A) are good at B) enjoy doing and C) see an opportunity to get paid doing. If you can find something that fits all three that s great. When I was young a popular way to make money was to help neighbors do yard work, shovel snow, mow a lawn or paint their houses. Asking your parents if they have any friends who could use help (even if it s just cleaning out a garage) is another great way to find people who will pay you. If doing work is not your thing you could always find or make items to sell on ebay. Don t be afraid to be creative, but make sure you don t get tempted into doing anything illegal or unethical. Bad decisions at a young age tend to have lasting unforeseen consequences.

I have a great idea where do i go? -

I have a great idea for a game(not video game) but for people who like to play like boards games and stuff i have a great idea but now i dont know whats the next step plez help me

Your best bet would be to start networking with people in the game industry. I believe at E3 and at GDC, there are independent studios and people pitching new game ideas to see if they can get financed to start the game. However, what they will most likely say is.. I like your game concept, however we don t want to sign onto this idea until we see a working demo. They don t want to just see the game on paper, they want to see it actually be playable in front of them. So if you don t have the endless amount of time and effort it takes to get a demo up and running in a real game engine, your idea might not go very far.Try contacting some game studios that you think may be interested and see where it goes from there. It would be a tough sell.. with the greatest idea in the world or not.. tough sell man.

I am in the process of opening a new small business in East Tennessee.? -

I had originally planned to operate it as sole proprietorship, because it was the easiest way to go. Now I am wondering if I should run it as an LLC or some other type of entity.

I would almost always recommend operating as an LLC. As a sole propreitorship, you are opening yourself up to unlimited liability. I work with entrepreneurs and investors exclusively on entity formation and asset protection strategies. If you need assistance, let me know.

I was going to put flyers on everyones door at my apartment building offering to take as much trash as they have for a week to the dumpster, how much should i charge for this...Also if you have a catchy name for the flyers. Thanks:)!!!

It depends on a few things. Do they have a problem getting it to the trash, or do you just want to make some money? The bigger the hardship for the customer then the more you can charge. Name for flyer: Stinky Remover.

Tips for starting apartment cleaning business? -

I really need money and just cannot find a job. I live in a very large apartment complex and was thinking I could make some money cleaning apartments for move out and move in. So not maid service but cleaning floors, bathrooms, and kitchens to help people get their security deposits back. I already own most the cleaning supplies necessary, including a carpet cleaner. Any tips on how to get this started, or what to charge? My marketing plan is just to put up flyers by the mail boxes at the complex and maybe a few others in the area.I was not planning on setting this up as a real business but can you think of any insurance I might need?

That s a great idea! I would first have a talk with your apartment manager and find out what is expected to be cleaned for a full refund of deposit. This will give you an idea of what you should charge. Do some test cleaning to figure out how long it takes you to do what the manager has told you. That will give you a general idea for pricing. Usually this type of cleaning is calculated in the $25-$40 per hour range, though you ll need to charge a flat fee-that is paid, at least, upfront so you don t get stiffed.I would get a small amount of liability insurance-it will protect you against claims of damage or theft. Call a lot of insurance agencies and get quotes-the price varies. And, I would get a contract you can use for the renters. I have tons more tips and resources for you on my Squidoo lens-the link is in my profile!

What is my best option in registering. Dont want it affecting personal assets, but am the only owner.? -

I m unsure of what would be the best way to go. I am think LLC, but am not so sure. I would be owner and operator, but want to make sure my personal assets are protected. What is my best option?

LLC is usually the best option for the type of business you are talking about. You could incorporate, but that is a huge pain in the butt to deal with: another level of tax reporting (though not taxes, if you are a Sub-Chapter S corp.), reporting to the state, state excise taxes, annual report filing fees, etc. etc. Sub-S status does have some advantages, though. For instance, as long as you pay yourself a reasonable salary for your work (you need to be on payroll if you have a corp, you don t just take draws) then anything left over at the end of the year does not get the double self-employment tax; it just gets taxed at your income tax rate. Also, since you are an employee of the corp, you can lay yourself off if business gets bad and get unemployment compensation. States usually have stricter standards when an owner/manager of a Sub-S corp lays himself off, but if it is legitimate you should have no problem. I am not sure the extra bother and expense is worth it unless you are a very seasonal business and expect to lay yourself off every year (like if you live in a resort area of some kind.) An LLC gives you the same level of liability protection that a corporation does, without all the corporate paperwork and (sometimes) the state fees. Keep in mind, though, that neither the LLC or a corporation will be able to get a loan without you co-signing for it, and anything that you personally do that is fraudulent or illegal will still attach liability to you. If you have any questions about this, I would get in touch with a lawyer. Keep in mind, though, that lawyers tend to like corporations for some reason. I think they like to make money writing up articles of incorporation and doing your filings.

Questions to ask before purchasing an existing sports bar/restaurant? -

I am currently reviewing an option to buy an existing sports bar/restaurant? What are some questions outside of the obvious to consider when I meet with the owners?I am aware of questions about payroll, cost of good sold, liquor license, maintenance contracts, equipment, and leasing arrangement? Are there any other imperative questions that one should consider being new to this industry?Thank you!

Hi thereWhat you have to keep in mind is that the owners is only selling you the business, not the goodwill. Now that means that they may have some very regular clients whom frequent the bar/restaurant on a regular basis, this may change as soon as they leave, clients go with them should they decide to open a new establishment or just stay away and visit the competition down the road. You have to be sure that you do have the personality and confidence to attract new customers and keep the regulars. The most important question I would say ask the owners if they do intent to retire or move out of the area because they may want to open another establishment two blocks from you. There is a clause that you can work into the buyers agreement which will prevent them from doing that it is called restriction of trade and you can stipulate a radius which would prevent them from opening a new place down the road. Ask them why they are selling if it is not for health or retiring reasons as this might give you a clue, there may be new developments in the area that you are not aware of and this might influence your business ie new road or the shutting of a road or a new development ie shopping centre which could have bars and restaurants and therefore will stiffen your competition. Also have a look at their accounts or books this will also be a good indicator as to why they are selling as for at least 5 years financial statements and compare them then year on year.Hope this helpedRegardsElize

there are many accounting ratios that you probably are unaware of which can prove the financial soundness of a business. You can learn this by carefully going over the books preferably with an accountant (money well spent) or if you can t afford one go to your local college book store and buy a used accounting book

My suggestion to you (and maybe you ve done this) is to spend time in the bar. See how busy it is on various nights of the week. And get to know some of the customers. What do they like, what would they change? That might get you some additional insite as to the general condition of the place and changes that might need to be made (which may cost some additional money).

What are formal and informal networks to hairdressing salon? -

in addition, if you able to provide with some examples of each one. thanks in advance to your help

The formal networks are those based upon well defined relationships. That is people know how and why they interact. E.g. The boss and the salon workers, vendors and the office manager, etc. Informal networks or relationships are not based upon strong relationships, but rather informal relationships. Networks between and among the customers would be informal. Peer workers may form informal networks. Think of them as clicks Hope this helps. Good Luck.

In the continental US does location have any impact on a mail order/internet based retail business? -

Tax benefits aside does location matter?

sometimes. your actual shipping costs can be reduced if you ship from a location close to most of your sellers. if you charge a flat rate for shipping, your profit is increased.

Small business owners. What do you think of this method we use of invoicing? -

My husband and I run a small business. He repairs industrial machines and has over 400 clients he will service. He may only get to some customers once per year and then others several times per year. When he invoices he fills out the worksheet with repairs and the final cost on the spot and hands the paperwork to the floor manager. If they pay him a cheque on the day they get a 5% discount as an incentive otherwise it is 30 days credit. He works on his own and I do the accounts. The thing is that once a month I chase up unpaid invoices. I email overdue notices and call if they fall really behind. Lately they have all been saying the same thing you haven t sent us an invoice . I try to explain that we don t work that way and have discussed it with my partner more than once about this method of payment. I see it as an excuse for them to hold off paying as long as possible. My husband says that he would only be posting out the paperwork he gives to the floor manager anyway as it has the original signature of whoever approved the job to be done. He also says that it is double the paperwork etc and the cost of stamps plus my extra time. I think he has a point. If someone comes to repair something at your house they give you paperwork on the spot - not post it later. He is also not always able to wander around the factory floor unaccompanied to hand it to accounts. To me it should be the responsibilty of the floor manger who approved the job to hand it to accounts - otherwise we could make up what we are charging them for. If we start to send out invoices it puts the pressure back on us especially if it is only 30 days credit and if it gets lost in the mail etc. What do you think?

I run my own business. I always email my invoices out. 30 days credit is exceptionally generous and I d never offer a 5% discount because it somehow cheapens the service you offer. It s like saying we re over-charging you 5% and it encourages people to take you up on the 30 days credit offerIf you want my advice I would drop the 5% discount the 30 day credit. I d put a line on the invoice saying that payment is due within 7 days. If they haven t paid in 10 days I d hurry them up.By giving them 30 days you re increasing the chances that they ll forget. Bits of paper do get lost. At least if you email the invoice there s a permanent record.Make sure you re sending the invoice to the right person (which probably wont be the person who authorized the work). Include the job number etc.Don t negotiate your terms. Tell them 7 days, that s it! It s a professional service you offer not a credit facility - you re not a bank so don t encourage your clients to view you as one!!

I can see your point and theirs. Here s how I d go about doing it. I d continue to offer the discount if they paid then and invoice those who didn t. It s not about who s right or wrong it s about how quickly you collect your money. If sending invoices gets your money quicker then do it. If you are having to waste time and have the extra expense of chasing down those accounts anyway then you haven t lost any time or money by invoicing them. Since you are emailing the past due invoices it shouldn t take much extra time or money to go ahead and send them the invoice before it is late.

It is no big deal to prepare an invoice, from what you describe. It is very unusual for businesses to pay for goods without an invoice, so you are cutting off your own nose to spite your face if you refuse to do this.It s not double the paperwork if he uses a duplicate or triplicate book to write the original bill. He gives the original to the customer at the time he does the work, and the duplicate can be filed as your record (and if you really are averse to typing an invoice, a photocopy of this would suffice). You have to remember that the purpose of having a business is to make money, so getting this part of your business working well is vital.

As a business owner, I never pay anything without an invoice. Paperwork gets lost. Billing accounts receivable is the responsibility of your business, and once I get that invoice it becomes my responsibility to pay it. But if it is a credit account, I expect a bill at the time the account becomes due.

what job pays $3100 a month

If you re single then it would be enough though you won t be able to afford too many luxuries. Mostly just enough to get by.If there s more then one of you, such as a girlfriend, wife, kids, whatever, then it wouldn t be enough unless they are earning money too, more then $3100 a month. For a full time job it s not that good of a pay at all. If it s a part time job then that s great!

thats alot compared to what i am going to live off of. you can comfortable live off of 900-1200 dollars if you can stretch it correctly. so 3100 is a ton of money!!!

No...That s just enough to live fairly well if you re single...

for a single person, yeah... its enough

Do you have to have a registered business to buy......? -

merchandise from manufacturers or wholesalers? I do not own a business but was wondering if I can still contact manufacturers to buy from them.....thanks!

You may be able to contact them but most will require you to have a tax id because they sell without the tax and it is up to you collect in the future (from the end user).

I think you could just have to go on the manufactuars website if they have one.

How old do you have to be to start a business? -

how old do you have to be to start a business?

that depends on the volume of your business:for doing neighborhood chores and grass cutting, snow shoveling etc for pocket $$, you can start as young as your parents/guardians allow.for setting up a proprietorship, LLC, or an S/C corporation as well as applying for an Employer Identification Number (EIN) or Tax identification Number (TIN) that s different from your SS# you need to be 18yrs old.

i don t think there is an age limit as long as you re capable of getting it started. however, if you want to start a new company that is it s own legal entity you might need to be old enough to fill out the paperwork.

i think it is don t have the relation with the age.....Now I only 24....but I have do the business of the jewelry for about 5-6 years....very well.....

Old enough to handle your own money, get a checking account, write a check, put an ad in the newspaper.

any age with prenatal consent 18 for most things tho

How do i start a wholesale produce business? -

You need a whole sale business license. Depending on what state and what product you decide to sell, will depend on how big your business must be and also the fees you must pay.

What is the best way to get a start-up loan if you need it to purchase the equipment to start the business? -

Are there loans to purchase the equipment needed to even begin the business, without taking out personal loans or borrowing against your home?

Let s start with this: forget banks. Banks historically don t like to lend to small companies without several years of operating experience. And in this economy, the environment has become even tighter, as banks are trying to clean up their own balance sheets and refusing to lend even to companies who might have been great opportunities in the past. So, while there are a few loan programs out there through the SBA and such, my suggestion would be for you to connect with suppliers, especially the manufacturers of the equipment to determine if they would be willing to become a partner in your venture. Since they have a vested interest in having you as a customer, many businesses are looking for creative ways to finance growth. When I was in the magazine industry, we were able to get fine credit terms from our printer, as they were eager to have us as a client. Those are the first calls I d make if I were in your shoes.

Good day to you, We are a registered financial company which grant loans to all individuals. We also deal on the sales of gold. We give out loans ranging from Home loans, Auto Loans, Mortgage loans, Business Loans, International Loans, Personal Loans, etc.Contact us today if you are interested in the loan. Mr. Frank Smith.Contact E-mail:ultimate.lenders@yahoo.com14 Cabot Square,Fulham,London,United Kingdom Tel Num: +447045723089.

if the business is new - the only loan you will get is going to have to be personally guaranteed or will require collateral like home equity and if you are not willing to share the risk with the bank, why would they help you? A business plan is almost a requirement also

Hello Dear,I saw your question and I decided to inform you on how i got my loan credit from Ultimate Lenders. I am Mrs. Rose Smart, six months ago my only son took ill, he wasdiagnosed of a heart disease, i was told by the insurance company, thatmy insurance won t cover my sons medical care.As a mother, i was devastated, owing to the fact that i just lost my husband a few years ago, so i started looking for money, because myjob was not paying enough to cover my son s bill, i looked for help fromfamily and friends but there was non coming, i went to the bank and was told that, they could not grant me a loan, because i had nocollateral. Finally, just as i gave up hope on lenders on the Net because ofscams, i met a lady chaitu from China who told me of Mr. Frank Smith, i tried him and he gave a loan for $80,000usd, today my baby boy is doingwell, i am not telling you this for you to feel sorry for me, rather iam telling you so that you can help me thank him and if you are ever in need of a loan you can contact him via e-mail:ultimate.lenders@yahoo.comThanks for reading my testimony, and God bless all the good people.Best regards,Mrs. Rose

Can I operate 2 different business parallels under one single company? -

If I open a business, called Company AAA, can I legally operate 2 kinds of business under the same company?I want to open a technology services company and a medical billing company. The technology company will implement and support medical billing software and other office technology services for other companies, they re kind of aligned but still 2 different lines of business. Can I still operate these 2 business under one single company? This would help me save money to start up my business.Any other suggestions?

If you re thinking of forming a corporation or LLC you can form one and then have two different fictitious names owned by the legal entity, which would be the corporation or LLC.

sure - just make them divisions of the same company - as for multiple Fictitious Names - that s another matter and that will cost you money

Is store4all.mybisi.com a trustable website? -

I wouldn t even bother if I were you. I actually tried buying an ipod touch from the website last week and today I sent them a pretty angry e-mail. Communication sucks, things with them seemed suspicious, and my transaction was declined because ..seller provided completely different details to us therefore; we are not accepting their account with Paymate. (I paid for the item using my debit card through Paymate, and they asked me if I could please advise them what product I was purchasing and from which website, because the seller was new to Paymate and they just wanted to ensure that all their security checks were completed to protect me.)Anyways, after being declined , I sent them an e-mail saying what all happened, that they are scam artists, and I wasn t buying **** from them. Btw, when I received e-mails from them, they were sent by someone named Jonathan Palmers whose e-mail is books4now@live.com. But on the last e-mail, I was sent this: Sorry credit card payment is temporally out of serviceand your funds will be refunded back to your card if you want this product please mail me your paymentPlease made your payment to Blase Pendarovskiand my address isBlase Pendarovski14781 memorial dr.suite 1242Houston . TX 77079Personal check, cashiers check, money order or cash is fine. Please e-mail me if you have any questions Plus, in Paymate, the e-mail admin4u@catholic.org was being used. I dunno, I feel dumb for not doing my research. I m just glad they didn t get away with my money.

I was just looking into that myself and found this site http://www.bustathief.com/scammed-by-store4all/ . It looks like someone else was scammed by the runner of the website. I am planning to stay clear. I also found the Blaze Pendarovski mentioned in that guy s article on a listing of know internet scam artists. Hope this helps.

Is there a good work at home co.? -

You need to send your resume out to real jobs you are qualified to do. In your cover letter you need to state that you wish to work remotely, from your home office. LOTS of companies, especially in CA operate this way. They usually provide transportation for you to come in for an interview and for you to attend company meetings a few times a year, but otherwise everything is done online

No, there isnt..They all exploit you and are mostly ripoffs....

How do you come up with a brand name? For a website AND/OR clothing line specifically? -

I have a lot of ideas that come and go in my head but i m afraid they are either already taken, not catchy enough, too hard to spell, or i dont like them enough to live with them for ever. HELP! How do you choose?

There are a number of ways to do this, and the one (or more) you choose really depends on your background, experience and attitude. If we re talking about an online business, I can think of a few guidelines you might want to follow:1. Get personal. Really think about why you are willing to devote your time and effort to this business. For a fashion blog, what really revs your engine about fashion? Is it the colors (ex: Hue Cry), the wild designs (Couture Clash) , the glamor associated with the industry? Putting a piece of yourself into your name will make it much easier to live with.2. Look around. What region of the country do you live in? Will your store reflect it? Words like Urbane, Burghal or Civil might work for an urban look. Rustic, Idyllic or Sylvan might work for a rural look.3. Differentiate. Do you have something unique to offer? If so, make sure to emphasize that. Now, since you already have a lot of ideas, try putting the name you re thinking of in quotes and looking for it a search engine. (I m sure there s one around here somewhere... ;) ) Count the results. If you get more than 100, try something else. Especially try another if you see the .com domain is taken. Net, Org and Tv domains suffer seriously from differentiation issues. And be sure to take advantage of your closest resource, your friends and neighbors. Get their advice. Most of them will be supportive of your ideas, but take their advice with a grain of salt. They won t want to hurt your feelings. After all, they have to see you regularly...One more thing I can think of: Take advantage of the resources from the Small Business Administration. They have online resources that can help you establish and grow your new business. Also, check out the other websites listed below for more advice.Good luck!

How do you create your own invention when you dont have money, or supplies? -

I have a great idea, i just don t know how to start. I don t want to go overboard with my money, and I m going to put my budget at $100 to make a prototype. How can I get supplies for cheap?

Creating a new product from scratch, working through design iterations, starting a business, and finally putting the product in the marketplace to sell is a very difficult process. I m an engineer and have started a number of product based businesses; my first few tries were not successful.Every year tens, probably hundreds of thousands of people come up with great ideas, but very very few actually make it all the way through to selling their idea. Because you don t have much money to start, making a cheap prototype will be tough, but it s definitely doable. Not sure what type of product you re thinking about (and I d suggest NOT telling anyone about it, especially prospective investors or other business people, without having them sign a non-disclosure agreement), but try going to junkyards, friends, even stores that carry the supplies you need and ask them if they have anything old/used for sale.Making the prototype is the easiest part....the real work comes in refining the design, starting a business to sell the product (a ton of paperwork, taxes, legal considerations etc), possibly applying for a patent, marketing, and finally at the very end taking in revenue. The best advice I ve heard and can give is don t give up, go for it, it will be worth it in the end. Shoot me a message, I m more than happy to give more advice....and if it s a really really good idea, maybe some investment capital!

Without a general idea of the product, tough to know where to send you for materials. Lego can work for a model.Wood, plastic, and metal stock are available at building supply places.Hobby stores if the items are smaller. You can also buy existing items, and cannabilize the parts. For example, if you need a small motor, buy a motorized toy car, instead of building a motor. You will not be patenting the motor anyway.

find an entrepreneur that believes in you often you can give up part of the company or idea for some start up capital

just be creative and find substitutes for what you cant afford

How do you start a business? -

I want to start a business in the next couple of years, but how do I start a business selling recreational vehicles?

you need to go to the court house and obtain a permit or license. talk to them, they ll tell you everything you need to know.

After years of trying and always wanting to find and grow a successful business, the so called secrets to success are so simple as to be embarrassing when you write them down. Anyway I am way past the stage of being embarrassed so here are my rules for running a successful business.Rule Number 1Is there a market for what you are proposing to sell - recreational vehicles?Don t listen to friends or family, they will generally agree with you out of politeness. Do some research on the streets, at work, at clubs, social events. In your specific case I would talk to sporting clubs and try to find out where they buy their stuff now?Talk to at least 500 people and more if you can. Don t ask them would they like to see a store or have a store like you suggest. Ask them this one important question? If there was a store, would you be be prepared to buy something? When you have finished this survey, you will know if there really is a market. Please interpret the research honestly and don t pretend to yourself there is a market when none actually exists. For example if they are currently buying say on eBay at cheap prices, how will you compete with that?Be very honest at this stage, it will save you a fortune.Rule Number 2Work out your overheads - ALL of them and don t try cutting corners. Lease of the shop, rates, taxes, lighting, heating, air conditioning, stock, staff, theft, security, your wages, advertising, time spent with suppliers, payment terms with suppliers, travel, expenses, overdrafts, loans, personal equity and there are more.Work them all out and don t compromise because costs NEVER go away.Rule Number 3Simple as this may seem revenue less costs is profit. Revenue in truth is meaningless or as they say revenue for show profit for sanity. It doesn t matter how much you turnover if it doesn t cover your costs. Work out your break even point. It s easy to do.Buy a football top at $30 Sell a football top at $50. You make $20. How many of those do you have to sell to cover your costs of say $0.2m dollars a year? 10,000 is a lot of tops so can you shift 200 of those a week?I know it is more complicated than that but you have to work out what the cost price and the retail price is for your line of products, and then do a forecast as to what sales you think you need to do. That will get you a break even point, and anything over that is profit. If so how much would they be prepared to spend a year on goods like this?Rule Number 4Do a proper business plan which is the most annoying thing in the world to do. In fact it s a pain in the rear but without something written down you won t ever know the truth. In Ireland where I live 3 out of every 4 start up business fails for this very reason. No research, no business plan and no planning.Follow these 4 rules and be honest with yourself. Rule 1 covers the market and the competition, rule 2 deals with the bit no-one really works through in detail. Rule 3 is find your break even point and Rule 4 applies only if you have done everything before it.If you do and things look negative stop it right there and kill the idea stone dead.If on the other hand it looks good, in other words there is a market, there is competition but you can compete, you know and understand your costs, you have your break even point, done a business plan and then done your planning, good luck and really go for it.Best single tip, start with the end in mind!

Do the things cowgirl suggested and also talk to someone who is already doing this, preferably in a location on the other side of town or even further so that you would not be in direct competition with them. (By the way, the courthouse might not be able to tell you EVERYTHING you need to know.)Also, you could try to get a job at such a business, work there for a few years, then branch out on your own.

Do online surveys work? -

I joined an online serive thing for money... but it seems like i keep subscribing to more more does any of the stuff work?

Try signing up with companies directly. I have not been into the online survey thing, it is a scam, paying pennies an hour at most. When my last child was an infant we worked for Proctor and Gamble doing surveys. They paid me a little, about $25 for each survey regarding infants. But, where I really benefited was she had a completely free supply of all baby products they had, including diapers. New products, not yet on the market, came in the mail every week. I tried each one and did a survey for each. I only made a couple hundred a month, but saved more in the free diapers, wipes, ointments, etc.

I guess if you find a reliable online surveys website, you will get your money when yoiu reach certain threshold like $10-20. And most online surveys are only available in US and Canada only. There is a list of online surveys in this website http://www.createmoneywebsite.com/onlineSurveys.html . You can have a look for other ways to make money online there is you re interested.

I believe what you are looking to participate in is not an online survey but a focus group. Online surveys pay pennies and there is no sense wasting your time thinking you will be making any money performing them. You are wasting your time and getting in debt if you give your time over to such surveys. What you want to look into are focus groups. I have seen pay ranges between $25-$300 for a few hours of your input. Two that you should give a try are C2 Consumer Research and Delve. www.shopping-incognito.com lists information and resources for those interested in Self-Employment, Secret Shopping, Focus Groups, Internet Business and Legitimate Work-At-Home opportunities. If what you really want to do is make money and not do surveys there is a risk free internet business with low start up (under $100) that teaches you how to truly make money online. www.maverickmoneymakersmogul.com (they have a 60-day money-back guarantee through clickbank)

All the ones I use work, but I am very careful about which ones I join. I ve never had to ever subscribe to more sites though, all the ones I am a member of I just signed up for them and now I take their surveys and get paid. Opinion Outpost, Global Test Market, Daily Survey Panel, Palm Research, and Survey Spot are just a few to name.

Well, i dint really like doing surveys because they take to long to do. so i just find site like cash crate, or one that i found called cash4free. that s the first site I ve made minimum pay-out on, and the money went strait into my pay-pal :3dont worry, its legit, and the pay out is only $15 along with a sign-up bonus of $5. and you don t have to wait for your offers to pend, as soon as the requirements are met, you get paid for that offer :3here is the link: http://www.cash4free.com/?ref=392997give it a try! ^^good luck! :D

They all differ with what they pay and how they pay. Some pay in cash but the 5 minute surveys usually take 3 - 4 times longer. Some of them pay with their own equivalent cash which is hard to spend. So far I have found they aren t as good as they say. Good luck

I have never had any success with online surveys.I work with the Powerbar Club which is a completely free home based online business. Send me an email and I will be more than happy to work with you directly.

it only works if you join a legitimate reputable company. stackchange.com reviews survey sites that actually work.

Why are some many people on ebay watching this item, but nobody is bidding? -

Are those WORK AT HOME ON THE INTERNET ads legitimate? What do you have to do? -

I keep running into ads that say things like Unemployed mom makes $77 an hour at home! and Yes, I lost my job now I make $7K a month! It seems that if it was that easy to make all that cash, you could be a millionaire at home and watch HBO all day. Help me understand.

These are fake, really fake. Some promises you money for sending the same ad or some other scam. If anyone could make $77.00 per hr. on the computer there would be no unemployment problem in the U.S. or anywhere else.

If they were real everyone would do it.They re all scams.

Are internet sales for services actually the wave of the future? -

I work at an insurace agency and it seems to me a lot of people research things on the internet but do not necessarily purchase on the internet. Is this true with most service based businesses? I understand and agree that retail sales are done through the internet a lot. Are service based business like insurance going to follow that same trend? Thanks in advance!Jason

If you create an easy to use website many people will definitely take advantage of that. I would love to be able to go on a website and be able to pick exact options. Like add a $250 deductable and see how much of a discount I get as opposed to a $500 deductable. But if it s just sending a request for a quote and getting one back by email, that is just too faceless. The happy medium is a truly interactive website. Until then I think most people will buy policies either by phone or in person.

Starting a small, home-based business? -

My husband is a cnc machinist. He built a cnc machine in our garage. He has been making pictures on wood plaques and they are really good. He wants to sell them. He wants to know what he should do to get a business name, and how to go about starting the business. Thank you for any advice

As a Director in Tupperware, I attend many Craft Fairs, Fall Festivals, Bazaar s and Expo shows! I see people selling wooden plaques and signs at these events. They seem to sell quite well! Most folks get going by doing these kinds of shows! This is the PERFECT TIME for you! There should be many events taking place in your area, right now for the Holidays! So, just call those folks! Usually, it only takes $20-$70 to purchase a booth space!Best of luck! You can do this!Tammy HornekTupperware Director877-884-WARE (9273)http://TWisGreen.comhttp://DreamGreeters.com

Is it possible to begin a call service business like this? -

that is make a deal with a cellphone company, to take percentage of every incoming call, without anyone wondering what it s for besides for business purposes ?if i were to setup something like this, and then went on to advertise an ad for a product i m not actually promoting (for instance selling an apartment for a surprisingly low price) and make money from incoming calls?I know it might be immoral, but is there anything illegal with that?

That s not going to work, it sounds good but it s only a discount off your bill, only a few pennies, I tried it. Very bad idea, here s a good one!http://www.online-richgirl.wetpaint.com don t play games with the cellphone companies, they always win.

How can I roughly estimate my taxes if Im starting a home-based business? -

I m considering a home-based business and I m wondering how the taxes will differ compared to my current salary, assuming all other elements are remaining the same. (Please note, I m not asking about the forms to use, how to submit tax information, or taking obscure deductions into consideration; I have already read up on all of these items.)I currently have a salary of $80,000. Based on what I actually bring home, roughly 35% of my paycheck currently goes to taxes (ridiculous, isn t it?). If I were to stop my corporate job and do a home-based business full time, what % increase or decrease could I expect in taxes for a sole proprietor that makes enough money to qualify as income. Again, I m not considering deductions like running a business out of my primary residence, business travel expenses, etc. I m strictly comparing taxes to taxes. It may not be possible as there are tons of factors to consider, but if anyone has insight, personal experience, or even a rough idea to guide me, that d be great!

As an employee you are paying 6.2% for Social Security and 1.45% for Medicare. Those will double when you become self employed, but the additional amount you pay is deductible for income tax purposes. As for your income tax there are too many variables to consider. The primary variable would be your income from the business. You do need to consider those deductions you call obscure , because they could be significant. In my business they are significant and make up for the extra FICA taxes I pay.

When you are self employed, you pay the employer s share of fica/mc, so our tax bill will go UP 7.65%.

What do you do ? -

after you absentee owner wants to start coming in to work? Its been 4 years i have been running his store with no issues. This owner knows nothing of the industry, bought it as an investment lol. but now wants to start delegating. Should i tell him to beat it? Or let him just run the store into the ground and go over to the competition? Nice guy but knows nothing of the trade and cant hold a wrench of work sales. Dont know what to do. Any help would be great. Thanks

Harmony, you ll need as much harmony as you can get here. Sounds like a very sticky situation you ve found yourself in. I d suggest a two-prong strategy:Do your work wonderfully. Most bosses in their hearts know what they know and don t know. Your guy can bluff and bluster all he wants, but I m guessing that in his soul he is well aware that you are the person who can truly get things done. But sometimes bosses are slow to recognize an employee s value. So, to help prove that to him, I would try to schedule a personal vacation for a few days; do it soon, so he gets a glimpse of what life is like at the shop without you. If you are correct in your judgment, your absence should prove that to him.At the same time....Start your own business planning. My guess is that Plan A has less than a 50-50 chance of succeeding. It s his company and he has the right to run it any way he wants to, even if that means booking a one-way trip to the dung heap. But I m not sure why the only alternative you ve mentioned is to go over to the competition. If you know this business well and have had success growing it, why not see if there s a way to build your own? Is there room in the market for a competitor? One other thought as you re working through this: You might see if the owner is willing to sell the business. Since you say he s a nice guy, there might be a win-win here. I m smelling entrepreneurship in your future.

Is bigspot.com a good site for making money at home? -

No, just another scam. You can only obtain legitimate work from home positions from brick and mortar companies. You want to send your resume out to companies hiring for positions you are qualified for, but include in your resume that you have a home office and you wish to work remotely. Include how you have your home office set up and what equipment you already have in order for you to perform your job. These jobs are just going to advertised as jobs, they would not promote them as work at home because they would hear from too many unqualified people.

The same way I do. Go to my website here:http://www.wix.com/lildamanted/earnmullababyCashcrate is a great website to earn money, especially if you gain referrals.I earn about 500 dollars a month from referrals(people that sigh up under you).If you don t believe me just copy and paste url and it will be all the proof u need if you want to learn how to make money .note: Im 16 years old making 500 a month from internet basically doing nothing, You can do the same if you sign up and get people to sign up under you. please give it a try. I ll even send you my own personal guide if you need it.

Starting a car detailing business? -

How good is it to start a car detailing biz. I have over 10yrs of experiance. I know that the economy sucks now but it will get better

The problem with starting ANY business is that it takes money to start most of them. As you know, all of those chemicals and what not cost money, then you have to take into account having to pay staff, etc etc but the question is, how big of a business are you planning to start. if you as an individual put ads on craigslist and put out some fliers in nice neighborhoods and this n that and ran a mobile car washing service it would cost you substantially less than it would to have a brick and mortar location somewhere. the problem with starting big like that is that you need to spend a lot of money paying employees, rent, electricity, supplies, and most of all marketing / advertising. advertising is the most overlooked part of being in business, but it s pretty much the most important.. without knowing how big you plan on making this it s hard to give a good answer... but.. if you can give me an idea of that i can give you ideas about how to do it...

sculpture dolls, stuffed animals and some cross stitch work. Without having to resort to the expense of renting space at a flee market or consignment at a shop, what would be the best option to advertise my work and at what leval of earnings would I need to file income tax on any profit I acquire?

Lois, the best low-cost ways to advertise your work would be to do it online, which is where many artists are spending their time these days. And since you ve come to Yahoo! Answers for advice, I m guessing that would feel comfortable to you. {Have a look at this article I wrote for the New York Times about artists exploring new markets for their work: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/11/27/busineeBay and Etsy are two sites that are very popular with artists. There s no middleman between the artist and the consumer; you can set your price and terms and go from there.eBay has a huge community of crafters and offers a guide to getting started. http://pages.ebay.com/buy/guides/crafts- If you ve already sold other things on eBay and are familiar with the process, that would be a natural place to try. Some artists prefer to sell their work in an online community that is focused solely on artists. That s where Etsy comes in. Etsy is basically an online shopping mall where all the stores sell hand-made items. While Etsy isn t free, it comes pretty darn close. Signing up for Esty and opening your online shop is free. Once you list items for sale in your Etsy shop, you pay 20 cents for each item you list. When you make a sale, you pay a commission of 3.5 percent. Full details on how to start selling on Esty are here: http://www.etsy.com/faq_selling.phpAs for taxes, what you re selling doesn t matter. Income is income to the state and federal tax collectors. The short answer is that you after you ve reached $400 in self-employment income, you ll have to file federal taxes. But your tax situation will depend on a variety of things, including what other kinds of income you have. In addition to federal income tax, there is also state income tax and sales tax, which both vary by state. The Small Business Administration website has a useful section on tax planning for small business. {http://www.sba.gov/smallbusinessplanner/ Make sure to also talk to your regular accountant.

Lois, there s always SOME marketing expense, and resorting to renting a table . . . sounds like you re saying you want to make but not sell.Well, you have to get attention SOMEWHERE if you re to sell your stuff, so either suck it up and do the flea market circuit, or learn about SEO to drive traffic to you (or pay someone like me to do it for you if you don t have time or interest in learning it for yourself). As for the tax question: the CORRECT answer is that you pay at your marginal rate , but there are so many permutations on what that means and even questions about who you are that the question can t really be answered here without making assumptions. I won t do THAT, and neither will any other consultant worth listening to!Reach me through the link if you want help . . .Jeff

First things first, get a state sales tax number. You ll save yourself a lot of headaches. And when filing a Federal tax form you ll need one that covers businesses. just follow the prompts. As for advertisement you ll just have to test the waters. Good LuckEdit: Some towns only allow you to have one yard sale per year so check with the town zoning officer. Also you may need a state tax license to sell at established flea markets. Do your home work pronto. Ignorance of the law is no excuse. Do you remember this past summer a young girl was selling lemonade in NY Central Park and the park police issued her a summons for not having the proper permits. The case was dropped but she had to move on. And I believe her father paid the fine.

You could get a states licence to sell,But you could sell at yard sales, put a ad in the local newspaper or ebay, craigs list. etc.Good Luck!

What is the best profitable Online Store is there to sell my own items? -

Hello, I need some expertise here. I am wondering what is the best profitable Online Website Store to go with? I would like to list and sell some items. Not Ebay...Been there. I have seen a few only, and wonder who does more business with? Kaloni

Volusion is pretty good.

I want to start a Reiki at home business, do I need a license? -

I want to start a Reiki business at home but was wondering if a license is necessary? If I have a Reiki certification is that enough to start a reiki practice in San Francisco? From what I know, I may either need a massage license, a business license, or both. Reiki is a form of energy healing which deals with what is called touch therapy. Although it is completely different from Massage, there are some similarities.

i would consider an LLC if you can.almost every business here in tx has the LLC title (limited liability corporation) it limits what people can sue you for

Stump on how to get this business going!? -

Hello, I have a small gourmet beef jerky business that has been in operation for a few years now, my problem is getting capital and or a investor to help me with my venture, I have been selling online for a couple years now with pretty good sales, and we sell in our local area at convienence stores, sportsbars. We make a very unique beef jerky and have one of a kind flavors like...PEACH BBQ...WHISKEY GLAZE...HUCKELBERRY HABENERO....PEPPER MAPLE...and more! my problem is my credit is not very good at this time and even if it were with the economy being so bad lenders wont touch me, just would like some sound advice on what to do next,I have a business plan that is almost complete and have done my homework on all potential capital possibilites,

contact me at fineguesser@yahoo.com. Provide me with a return address and we ll talk.

Can you package your product in a manner that it can be shipped, and stored for somewhat lengthy periods? ( I m assuming it doens t need to be refridgerated)offhand this sounds like a product that certain sports enthusiasts would enjoy...like hunters, hikers. I m sure you are aware of several other of your perfect customer type. Why not advertise directly to those types of people.Direct mail...it works..especially for food

What I think is this,You don t want the bank or credit card companies being your partner, thier not our friends.Keep working on your business plan.Take smaller loans from family and friends and thier family and friends. They say everyone has 250 people in thier circle. Heck, if you borrowed $50 from a thousand people.I would look for two or three more accountsand earmark that money for your venture capital. If you don t have a website yet, try Bizland.com its a good learning tool and very reasonable to build a web site. You might also try ecrater.com to open a free online store front.I was looking at Facebook today and you can use that to develop leads and myspace too. Then of course theres e-bay.It all might be a bit slower but you sure are going to save some interest. So Good Luck to you and soon you will be the King of Beef Jerky.

How much capital (approx.) do i need to open small coffeeshop in toronto? -

what are the rental cost (approx.) and renovation cost (approx.)? im intending to open somewhere in/near shopping malls or business district; thanks for your answers

Toronto is an expensive place...... and you will need enough money to get you through to the point where you will actually be making money - and you still have to pay your staff while you are starting out. So, you need enough to pay the bills and the rent and the salaries for about 6 months, and also enough to support yourself for a similar period - PLUS what you will need to renovate any place you might rent. Count on $ 60,000 - to me that s a realistic figure.

this is something that you will either have to reseach yourself or ask a property dealer or estate agentthe rental costs of a shop will depend on the area where you intend to open while the renovation cost will depend on the type of renovtion you want to get done and materials that will be used for it, it is my guess that it will be anywhere from CAD $ 5,000 to 15,000 - the rest you can check out by getting the estimates of what you want

Would a British architects drawings be approved in an American city? -

I need to submit drawings for a building permit and I know someone who s married to a British architect. I know they have different code in the UK and I m unsure if he s familiar with US code. Would my local government accept his stamped drawings? Would the fact that he s part of a British firm make it unacceptable?

Every city in the US can have different building codes, so the architect will have to work with the people who are doing the actual construction to modify the building to suit the city, and obtain the permits. A building in the cold north would have different heating and cooling needs from one in the hot south. The soil stability in the area, and the building height would require different foundations. Parking areas, building setbacks, termites in the area, and a thousand other things enter into the equation.

I WANT TO START MY OWN TRASH OUT BUSINESS WHAT IS MY CHECKLIST I NEED FROM EQUIPMENT TO EMPLOYEES? -

I AM STARTING A CLEANING SERVICE OF MY OWN AND LATER I WOULD LIKE TO ADD A FORECLOSURE BUSINESS AS WELL AS PAINTING SERVICES AS WELL. WHAT DO I NEED TO START? THANKS! ALSO I AM NOT SHOUTING. I JUST ENJOY WRITING IN CAPS!

First and foremost, learn to type in both upper and lower case. This is more professional and you will need to use it when communicating with clients. Second, equipment. I would suggest the following possibles. Shovels (several types, for shoveling lots of large pieces of trash) RAkes, hoes, and other things used for separating and arranging trash. Buckets, trash cans and even big 55 gal drums for filling with trash. (YOu can get liners for the barrels, but remember: what you FILL you will have to haul, and empty) YOu might want a truck or trailer for hauling. Brooms for cleaning up Personal equipment (other than heavy work clothes) Gloves, boots, hard hat depending on the work environment.Dust masks, and eye protection and possibly hearing protection for working with heavy equipment. Lastly, employees. I wouldn t hire anyone that cannot do the work. You will need people that are used to hard labor and willing to get into the types of stuff you will get into.

What would be the best place to sell from? Thanks

You can try a completely free home based online business.

What should I set the Buy it Now price of the Chanel purse Im selling on Ebay? -

Im selling a Chanel purse on ebay that s never been used. I made it an auction, with the starting price at $450. The original price I bought it for was $990, but I m not trying to sell it for that much. But theres about two days left, and the price is $475 now. One person messaged me today asking if they could do a Buy it Now becuase they were really interested. That made me really excited but how much should I make them pay? Definitely more than $475, but if I kept it as an auction it may go way up. What do you think is a good price without ripping me off?

I would let the auction run its course, as the 1st answerer said most buyers bid in the final minutes/seconds.Tell your potential buyer that it wouldnt be fair to the other bidders/watchers they are welcome to bid. Nothing like a good old bidding war LOL.However if you did want to offer this buyer a BIN, ask the buyer what they are willing to offer? Then I think you can cancel any existing bids then revise the listing with the BIN (I think, never done it, always let my auctions run)Good luck

Hi,If you have bids on your item then you can t add a buy it now feature. I would let it ride as most bids come in during the last few seconds. When you ship the item, being it s over $200.00 you need to insure with signature required.

Why does Sally sell seashells by the seashore? Arent they free and plentiful in that location? -

How can this be good business sense?

The government probably made it illegal to take the seashells already on the seashore so that people are forced to buy them from seashell salespeople, such as Sally.

Good point, maybe she is a lib and has nothing better to do than hang out at the beach all day! And no business sense either lol

Because Sally gets up at the crack of dawn and collects them all, so there are none left for anyone else, so she has created a monopoly in the seashell business.

Sally is mentally retarded, why would you make fun of her by saying such things? Like most retards, she thinks that she is helping.

She s only open for business at hight tide.

cost her time to clean them up and put the ocean noise in them. time is money. she also stick googly eyes on them. more time. as you can see, nothing is free

She likes to rip people off.

My god, you re right!!

Because Sally is a single mother and has to make a living.

What to do when eBay buyer claims he never received item? -

I recently sold an item off of eBay and shipped the item to the buyer s address with USPS priority mail and delivery confirmation. The buyer just messaged me today saying that he never received the item and thinks the package might have been stolen. But when I checked on usps.com, it shows the item as delivered. Do I have any liability in this? What steps should I take to resolve this problem? Thanks

No Problem at all.. You should have the delivery confirmation Number (this is the most important) File a claim with ebay or respond to the claim if the buyer start it.. all you have to give is to give them the tracking number and delivery confirmation .. 100% will be in your favor.. Just keep contact with buyer in profeesional good manner, might be someone else in their home recieved it.. and in all ways Don t worry at all.. all the informations in your favor.. and enjoy your christmas , Hope this help, have a great day ..

Last year, I sold $100 car mats on eBay. I had the tracking # and the proof it was delivered and the buyer even left me + feedback. Then I get a notice from Paypal saying that the buyer disputed the charge and that I had to send proof that I sent it and that it was delivered, which I did. So Paypal does their investigation and determines that the buyer is correct for some reason, and I lose my $100 plus $20 in fees for their findings. So just because you have proof, doesn t mean you will get your money back.NOW - I am in the position of not receiving items that I purchased from Ebay. It seems that I have had 4 packages stolen from my porch - 3 from ebay sellers and 1 from Amazon. They were all marked delivered on the tracking info, but I do not have them. And with just my luck, I won t get my money back for those items, even though it worked the other way around when it happened to someone else on my end. The whole thing is just very unfair.

If you have delivery confirmation, then you are no longer responsible for whatever happened to the item. If he files a complaint against you with eBay, you will win because you have proof that you did ship the item to his address.

If you have delivery confirmation from the post office you are no longer liable. You delivered your product as promised. What you need to do is prepare for the negative feedback he is likely going to leave you.

He ll have to file a claim and if you have proof of purchase, Ebay will ask for it (or a tracking number) and they ll find in your favour. Let him claim! He ll lose.

I am tired of receiving late time sheets. How do I get my team to submit their time sheets on time? -

Does anyone else (employer/manager) face these problems? How are you getting past it?

Hi TimAs mentioned in some of the earlier answers, you could talk to your team and let them know the importance of timely submissions. Most members would be understanding enough to fall in line. You may also want to find out why they are submitting late - do you ask them to track too often? Is that much tracking necessary? You may want to do some introspection and simplify it a bit for your team...Check out this post on increasing timesheet adoption:http://www.replicon.com/blog/top-10-ways

tell them if the time sheets are not into you by 10am Monday morning, they don t get paid until the following week and then FOLLOW THAT RULE - I doubt they will be late more than onceand/or if you pay people any kind o f bonuses or something - tell them each time they DON T have their time sheet in to you by 10am Monday, they will lose 25% of any potential bonus for that entire YEAR - 4 times late and NO BONUS at all that year - more Bonus money to pay everyone elsethat way the people that follow the rules get rewarded more

Well my former company s time sheets were done electronically. We would tap our card for the punch in. At the end of those two weeks, our employer would use his access to print out the sheets for us to sign. However there were times where either he was late submitting the sheet to accounting or times where one of us would be out for the day.Anyway, it s best if you personally brought this sort of thing up in a meeting with your employees. You ll always get late time sheets, but the best thing to do is to try your best to cut the number of late submissions down.

Tell your employees that you are giving them one more week to submit their time cards on time. Then you are going to submit your weekly or biweekly to whomever. If their time cards on not in your hands by the required time limit, you will assume they don t want a paycheck this time around. Period. Submit the paperwork without their time card. Probably won t happen again. You have to set a deadline and stick to it. Without exception. No time card, no paycheck.

Hi Tim, My manager was in the same position as youHe spoke to all of us individually (whether we were guilty or not) also as a team. He told us he would get his butt kicked from his superiors if we didnt submit it on time. That seemed to do the trick. Maybe your team doesnt realise the problems it causes you? Lay a guilt trip on them, it could work.Good luck.

I think incentives are the best way to get results. First like others said, tell them you really need them on time. You want to do something to give them an incentive to help motivate them, but please out of respect to have them in on time. As for an incentive, can you offer them an hour off work? Maybe all that get them in on time get their name in a hat and draw for an hour to leave early on Friday? If they can t leave early, then a special parking space close to the door? Maybe a lottery ticket. You can get restaurant.com gift certificates for like $10 and sometimes they have a deal for them cheaper. Maybe give the winner a certificate. Maybe have a bigger prize that they get a ticket every week and at the end of the year all the weekly tickets go into a hat for a bigger prize.

Simple Your the boss No time-sheets , No payIf your a manager or team leader you can`t get your staff to do such a procedure then frankly the position is beyond your capabilities

Tell their slacking asses that you ...depend on it, the company depends on it, and keeping their job depends on it....

I want to buy 1000 rubber ducks from China? -

And I want them to be in a wooden crate. I want to buy these ducks wholesale. Can you point me towards a company that could do this?

Alibaba.com is a good place to start.HOWEVER ....1000 units is a very small amount for inexpensive items when you buy directly from China. (If it were TVs or other more expensive items its much easier to save a lot of money buying direct). You may well do better to buy them wholesale from a US distributor. You will definitely get wholesale prices for 1000 units.ALSO ...Get samples. Get samples. Get samples!!.. There is huge variability on quality out there.Good Luck.

Is a B.A. in business needed to open a restaurant? -

I m currently enrolled and earning A.A.S. in Business Administration. My long term goal is to own/operate my own restaurant but I m not sure how much education I would need to make my goal a reality and a successful one at that. (I also have a associates degree in culinary arts)

Although a business degree isn t required to open a business, I would STRONGLY recommend that you either get a degree or take as many business related courses as possible. On average only about 10% of all small businesses survive the first year and the failure rate for restaurants is probably even higher. Do you think most fail because the owners weren t passionate about their restaurant or didn t treat their customers well? Of course not. Most fail because the owners did not understand the business side of the restaurant. Admittedly, there are some people who just instinctively understand business or learn fast enough to survive the first few years but not everybody can do that. Business classes may not be a perfect way to learn everything that you need but they are a concentrated dose of information. In addition to your normal classes, you should see if there are any other classes directed towards small business owners or starting your own business. Lastly, practical experience can be even more valuable than taking classes as long as it s good practical experience. Perhaps there is a well established restaurant that would not be a direct competitor that will be willing to hire you and let you get some experience of running a business. It would have to be a local restaurant and you d have to have a good relationship with the owner but the experience could prove to be invaluable. Good luck.

NO, you don t need any college degrees to open a restaurant. The basic ingredients for a successful business would be experience, skills, and etc.. but a college degree/education is not included in there, especially for a restaurant. I ve worked at a successful sushi place before and I know a little bit about how they are successful. They were/are busy most days of the week when other restaurants are closing down. The main thing is customer service. Good food itself just won t cut it. You don t need a degree, the owner of the sushi restaurant barely graduated middle school in Japan but he owns two houses and has enough already for retirement. The thing he was good at was being able to learn from experience. He knows people that come to his restaruants by name, and he frequently tests new menus that sometimes are a hit for the American taste. You could also be good with finances, but you don t always need to do that yourself, hire someone to do it. But always keep in mind, don t be wasteful with food.

That s like asking if you need a university degree to operate a blender. Anyone can open a restaurant, but the real question I think your asking is Will my education directly assist in making my restaurant endeavor successful? Obviously the more education you have DIRECTLY related to the industry the better. I have been to restaurants owned and operated by retired mechanics and I would give them a 5 out of 5. On the other hand, I have been to places where the owner had 6 other restaurants in his life, and the over all rank would be no more then 2.1 out of 5. So it always depends on your passion, perseverance, and personality! Good Luck!

most restaurant owners probably had no college education - any business background helps - especially concerning accounting and taxes (payroll, sales, gross receipts, income)

Would it be better to partner with an existing online business or start up my own? -

I am planning to start my new online resume services small business. I was going to start the business on my own but now I am considering partnership with an online company which has more expertise than I do. The risk is not high if I invest on my own, but my business would benefit much if I partner with the company I have in mind.Would it be worthwhile to give them a piece of the cake in return for what I get? How do online joint ventures usually work in terms of percentage (pay per click..etc).Thanks!

What is a second chance offer on ebay? -

Is anyone currently selling on Ruby Lane and are you happy with your choice? -

I am looking for people that are currently selling and that have also previously sold items on Ruby Lane. I sell antiques and I am looking for other ways than ebay. I want to find out if people that have sold items on Ruby Lane are happy with their choice.

I was on RL but selling hand made jewelry. as long as you keep your account active, adding new items all the time, you have a chance to sell. There is a big BUT...it s too expensive. They charge you $20 as a co-op advertising in a magazine, whether you participate or not. Minimum monthly charge is about $40, and if you have more than 100 items then it s gonna be at least $60. Compared to Etsy or other websites, NOBODY charges so much, nobody. Period. And Etsy also much higher ranked on Alexa in traffic, it means it s at least 10 times more popular than RL. There is eCrater, for auctions, also iOffer...and more.

That isn t an auction, it s called selling someone something .

Both of you must have valid Pay Pal accounts*you both must have valid bank accounts, and get the accounts activated completely before any transactions take place. You as the seller need to see how long after they pay it takes to actually get your hands on the cash, and the amount of fees and how the fee structure is set up, as well as set up the Ebay account for a seller. Make sure you sell with delivery confirmation, so you can track, that the post man delieverd it, thats like .75 cents, but you must use a certain type of shipping, call the post office to ask. But do the delievery confirmation, many people claim they didnt recieve the item, adn your both protected this way, you that you actually sent it, and them that they got it. List the ad in the weird section they have, look at the homepage and scroll down the list of catagories to the see all catagories and pick one of the weird sections.

So you don t want to get a higher price for the item if someone else is willing to pay more? If you try ending the auction just after that person bids, you d better hope that the transaction goes smoothly as if your buyer has an issue then eBay is not so green at the auction business that they won t realize what you ve done. That person could end your eBay business if they are not satisfied and complain.

As your the seller you can place the item on sale and tell the purchaser the exact time and make it a buy it now option. Its possible that someone could still bid on it, but maybe you could do it when your both in the same place. Putting it up for auction and selling it instantly. Good Luck!

You could put a Buy it Now price on it. I assume you have a price in mind. But someone could come and buy it first. You could do an auction with your agreed upon price and then end the auction early. Select the option to sell to the bidder at the last auction price. That s probably your best bet.

I don t think that s possible. It would defeat the whole premise of what eBay is and does.If your buyer wants eBay protection, tell him to bid the amount agreed to and set you reserve price similarly. If no one outbid him, the merchandise is his. If he s outbid, well it s his own damn fault.

jana is correct. that s what to doand inform your Buyer when you will list itTotally legit to do it this way with ebay and you will both have protection (so long as you send recorded/special delivery-as with all transaction that need protection)

Try using the company Etsy.comIt is much like Ebay but there is a feature called Alchemy where you can request a custom item. That would work...I sell on it and love it....Website:http://www.etsy.comMy shop:http://www.etsy.com/shop/Hischild

you cant, you can do a buy it now, tell the guy who wants it and hope for the best. you can revoke the item if another person buys it but you cannot make an item invisible

illegaljust use palpal for the money transfer and the seller gets all the protection, he needs.

immpossible

pay alot
