I wanted to do modeling, any ideas how i can start off? -

i ve bee modelling for about 3 years now. I got started by signing up to www.modelmayhem.comIts a great networking site with some very talented people on it.If you start off by doing TFCD/TFP (time for cd/time for prints) shoots this means that neither you or the photographer pay each other but you both get to use the pictures for your portfolios.There are other sites out there that do a similar thing such as purestorm.com but modelmayhem is my favourite.If you start off by maybe paying for 2 or 3 professional pictures (head-shot and full length to show off your figure) you can get these done at professional photographers all over - i can recommend doubletake studios if you live in the uk. All you need is 2 or 3 good pics to start off your portfolio and show photographers what you ve got to offer them so that they ll be willing to work with you TFCD or maybe even pay you!Once you ve got started you can also register with a website like starnow.com which is all paid work.My main word of advice is never go to a photo-shoot alone - always take a friend or family member. If a photographer has a problem with this don t do the shoot! I have worked with many professional photographers who all encourage young girls to bring a chaperon for their own personal safety and so you feel secure. Hope this helps - good luck!

Having worked in NYC myself for 10 years, and having come in from out of state...what I learned was that NY companies would prefer to hire people with New York experience.You may think to yourself...that is pretty arrogant of them....Let me set the record straight.....They are completely justified in that requisite...the reason is that many people go to NY and try to make it and they just don t have what it takes.NYC is a whole different level of playing field....You have to be top notch or you won t make it. If you are lucky enough to get in somewhere...you will either adapt quickly or you ll fail and probably have to move away. it is a tough city...but if you make it....the education you ll get being in that environment will give you a trmendous advantage if you ever move back to your hometown.Its just like that NY song says If I can make it here, I can make it anywhere ...that is absolutely dead on.Keep trying and good luck.

I would highly recommend posting a local ad on craigslist.com to promote your babysitting business. Thousands of people are on that site everyday looking for babysitters and other opportunities as well. Post your flyers anywhere that has a community board (laundry mat, grocery store, library, restaurants) Market yourself and also ask your friends if they know of anyone who needs a baby sitter. Word of mouth brings in business especially if someone speaks highly of you :)

Fliers are a good, inexpensive approach, Kristen. I have done very well in several part-time ventures using fliers posted as Carla E suggests. Her Craigslist suggestion is also a good one.In addition to those approaches and word of mouth, I d suggest you also check out places where parents with young children gather. For example, some churches provide babysitting during their services. This would be a great way to promote your service and make a few dollars to start. In addition, your potential clients will get to know you and think of you when they need a babysitter outside of church.Another example is resorts. We live in a vacation area and some resorts here offer babysitting services to their guests. Our daughter worked at one of the resorts as a waitress and did babysitting between her waitressing shifts.
