How to open an animal shelter? -

So i am a huge animal lover. I myself have 3 cats, a dog and two rats. It is my dream to open my own shelter to help adopt out animals who deserve second chances. I know it is gonna take years of work but I am willing to do what i need to to get this dream going. I am just wanting to know the specifics. 1.How much i would need to start this shelter. 2.How would I get animals 3. what licenses are needed for this. and any additional info you have would be great. I would prefer someone to answer who has done this before but any advice would help and I do rate best answer.

I don t know too much about starting a shelter but I do volunteer at my local humane society. The shelter I volunteer gets their pet mostly from owner surrender. At any one time they can have, just cats, up to 300. Then add in the dogs and small animals. Now they each need $25 for food and toys for each individual. Most states require you have to spay/neuter all adopted pet, so you would need a vet and a vet tech. If you take volunteers, this is what I do, they can take cats or dog home with them for a few weeks so the can heal/recover away from other sick animals. Most of the cats that get sick at shelters get URI (upper respiratory infection), these cat get daily meds., so you would also have to buy those, and their foster parents administer the meds.Just a few random things I can remember right now. If you have any questions I would be happy to try to answer them for you.
