Online market problems--what should I do? -

(This happened to my mother, but I m going to state the question in first person for my convenience.)A while ago, I bought a Louis Vuitton travel bag for about $300 on one of those Ebay like online market sites, where just about anyone can buy and sell.Because many uncertainties may occur when purchasing and selling items, it is a rule on the site that the buyer and seller must send the check and the item sold on an arranged day; so in other words, AT THE SAME TIME.However, after sending the check, I awaited the arrival of the bag, and seeing how it did not arrive on the scheduled day, I contacted the seller to see if anything was wrong. She pushed that she did sent the item and that it should arrive shortly. Luckily, the item did arrive.However, I took at look at the track number, and it turns out that the item was sent the DAY AFTER she received my check.This was the beginning of my unease.Another point:In her description of the bag, she stated that the bag was in very good condition, (which was the reason for the high price). However, I inspected the bag and found a lose nail here, and a torn string there, and so decided to return the bag.I told her that she did not mention these things in her description and thus the sell a little deceitful.She agreed to accept the return under a condition.She asked if she could send the check in ONE MONTH, because she did not have any money at the moment.I told her that this was unacceptable. I was feeling quite a bit uneasy about this transaction due to the previous episode.I tried to reach a compromise, telling her that if she could send a check right now, that I would not cash it at the bank until a month later, or until she gives the OK. However, she said she could not do this, and ignored all my messages afterward.Not knowing what to do, I went through her old messages and found the contact information for her friend (lets call him Joe). I contacted Joe and he said that he would tell her to return my messages and phone calls.But nothing happened for the next several days.So I called Joe again; he said he did not know what was going on, and that he would tell her to stop ignoring my messages.But nothing happened again for the next several days.By now I am very nervous, and I told Joe that if she continues to evade me, I will put her name on the black list on that site.Hearing this, the woman finally contacts me saying that I can put her name on the black list or whatever I want and that she was so offended that I would do this, that she cannot accept the return!What should I do!?Is there anything I can do about this? Is there a legal way of dealing with this situation?I am desperately in need of help.

I used to be an active seller buyer on eBay, but stopped a few years ago.Simply could not deal with the many scams and problem people on the site - it is no longer fun to use eBay.Right now I need to buy a certain item, and the only place I could find it is eBay - but rather than use the service, I ll continue to look on my own. The risk of frustration, loss of money , is simply too high for me.

Britty,Its perfectly o.k. to copy the layout and general design of another website. A lot of people do this and it makes sense.You should get your own website though, not a free site. A free site is very limited and wont get you traffic. You also cant really make any money with a free site. So, why waste your efforts ?Start by getting a good web host. You can get a deal for around $40 or less.Then create the website. I always suggest Wordpress because the websites look great, you dont need to know html, and Wordpress sites are automatically seo optimized. Seriously, anyone can make a great site with Wordpress. I wish you had left the site you like so i could suggest a theme.Anyway, on the website you like, notice how many columns there are, then look for a similar layout in Wordpress. There are thousands of free themes available. Wordpress comes with your host, so your only spending about forty dollars total.Good luck

as long as you didn t copy any logo s, pictures etc....it should be legal....layout of website should be universal and sometimes from one website to another website should possible to have the same layout. Even if you re using the free service website, they should give some standard layout to be use by the user....so, it should be legal i guess

If you don t have a dedicated phone number for your business, get one. Then put a message on your answering machine saying that you re out of the office but will get back with them asap and that their business is important bla bla bla.Build it into your customers and your potential-customers mind that it may be a little bit before you get back to them. If you start off that way, there s no surprise later, and every time you get right back to them, they ll feel special.You ll also need to get your kids to understand that you work at home. And, since it is work, they need to give you some time to get it done. Kids seem to think that if you re home, you are available to their every whim. It will take some training and persistence, but they ll get used to it.Let them know that as soon as you make $[insert dollar amount here] you re all going to [insert fun activity or purchase here]. Recruit them into helping by handing out your business card to everyone they meet. My 12-year-old does it for me. By being involved, they ll take some personal ownership of the business and expect you to work at it.Whatever you promise them, you have to deliver, though. Otherwise they won t believe you next time and will feel cheated.

Get a planner with a good calendar. Mark down the times you need to do essential things like your job, do things with/for your family, household tasks, time you need to spend taking care of yourself (doctor s dentist appointments, excercise, etc) spending time with friends, etc. Take a look at the hours you have left and use those hours to schedule your business work hours . Although you are probably a very busy person you will probably find some hours in there that you can use that you are currenly using to watch TV, play video games, surf the internet, shopping, etc. Those are the hours you will probably need to use for your business. You may also want to enlist the help of your kids to help more with household chores or maybe depending on their ages and what your business involves they may be able to help you with your business. Can they help you file, print labels, take catalogs or brochures to your neighbors, help you put together mailing packets, etc?Good luck in your business!

Push back your work to as late as possible. Spend time with them during the day and do your work after 5pm. They get your day you get your evening.

What type of home party business should I join? -

I am currently selling Avon and had my grand opening party. I loved it. I am also thinking of joining another company that runs based on home parties. Where as Avon you don t have to have the parties but it helps your business. I am having trouble finding a list of companies in Ny. I live in Upstate Ny if that helps any. I know of Pampered Chef, Tastefully Simple, Mary Kay and Lia Sophia and Tupperware. We have quite a few reps in the area selling all but tupperware, I am looking for other ideas as Tupperware doesn t seem to really appeal to me much but whichever is going to make me money I guess. Any ideas would be great. Oh and I m not interested in doing Toy parties.

You didn t mention Scentsy. Have you looked into that? Like you, I wanted to find a company that my friends didn t know of and we weren t already going to parties of that type. Because Scentsy is a younger company, there aren t as many reps as some of the others.Like Avon, you dont have to have parties, although it helps. I do a lot of basket parties where I send my scent samples out the door with a hostess and she has a party on the go.
