You will need to pass the state exam to get your beautician license first. The fee will need to be added to your start up costs.Price the equipment you should buy by consulting websites for those companies that sell what you need. Factor in utility costs for the business only (a percentage of your home utility bills).Double check your state s taxes. See if you need to collect taxes on your services. If you are selling products (lotions, shampoos, conditioners for the customer to use on their own) you will need to collect sales tax on those items.Consult your local Small Business Administration (SBA). They will help you figure out what you need to do and what fees must be paid to set up your business. If you want to start your own salon, they can help you acquire a business start-up loan.
