EBAY SELLER/SHIPPING QUESTION? -

Hi- I m new to ebay and I trying to figure out this situation with shipping. I posted a large hutch online with local pick up only under the shipping category. I did this b/c I have no clue how to ship such a large item and/or how to price it. I was contacted by a buyer who wants to know if I will ship it, if he arranges everything with a moving company. It would be shipped to CA. I don t know how to reply. I ve always heard to be skeptical of these transactions on craigslist but not ebay. I did a search of this person s ebay ID and he/she has been a buyer for 7 years with 100% positive feedback. Can you tell me if you think this is safe to agree too and how can i protect myself? If he puts money into the paypal account and it clears is that a safe transaction or can it bounce, like a check can? Thanks a ton.

Unfortunately, it *is* possible for accounts to be hacked. Here s the problem with accepting a check for payment. You get the check, you deposit it. The bank gives you a courtesy credit in 3 days even though the check hasn t cleared. Then 2 weeks later, the bank either gets their money from the other bank or they come back to you and says, hey, it bounced, we want our money back.Since you are currently in email stages, I don t think you can get her street address and phone number from eBay. I would get her phone number and call her. If you hear an accent, stop cold and say sorry.Step 2, request a cashiers check (or USPS money order) and tell them it will take 2 weeks to clear before their shipper can pick up the item. (That s how people with cars handle it.)Also be very aware that the standard scam is to send you money, then ask you to either forward money to a shipper for them or they have an emergency and want a refund --in both cases, they want you to send them your real money before their fake money bounces.
