I m selling some long leather boots on eBay and I don t have the original box.Should I try and get hold of some plain shoeboxes to package it for aesthetic and safety purposes, or just pack them carefully with bubble wrap and parcel paper? What would you expect if you were buying boots on eBay?

USPS has flat rate priority mail boxes. They are free at the post office. Get one of those and the boots will fit in there. You don t need to put bubble wrap in a package that only has shoes in it.
The buyer will want whatever ensures they arrive undamaged in the post.
