How do I acquire a copyright? -

at least I think thats what I need. You see, I found a freelance mixer to record my bands music. But I found out (by asking a lawyer) that unless I have copyright, who ever produces the product and edits the music file is the owner of it. He or she can legally edit it however they want and call it their own, because I gave them the file. It s like if you write a report and give it to someone to publish. Without legal proof, anyone could call it their own and yo wouldn t have a leg to stand on. How do I get a copyright?

A copyright is implied to the originator of the song, unless there was a contract that gave the copyright to the producer. You can register your work with the US gov t at http://www.copyright.gov/register/.You generally don t need to register to have a valid copyright, but it makes it infinitely more difficult and expensive to claim if you haven t registered your work.
