Starting up a small part time business? -

i am starting up a small business, firstly i am off to a carboot sale to promote my business (nail art tech) If it all goes well and is popular then i plan to carry on with it.however, at what point do i have to start declaring tax to the gov.t?

You need to let the inland revenue know you are trading as soon as possible. Think the limit is 3 months from the end of the 1st month you started in. You could be fined if it is later. Also, go to www.hmrc.gov.uk and look for form CWF1. this is the form to register your business and obtain a tax reference number so you can complete a self assessment tax return. You will also have to play class 2 national insurance which is just over 2 a week.Next step is then find an accountant to complete your accounts at your given year end, either 5th April (its easier for accountants) each year or 12 months from you start date.
