Im a small business, do I have to show my receipts to customer I do work for? -

I have been doing some pressure washing for a client some time now. I own my washer, and have to purchase all chemicals used. It take over 30 days, sometime more to recieved my payment. So I added a mark up to this. Now he s asking to see my rental fee and receipts for stuff bought. So do I have to produces my receipts ?

Do not show your receipts.Explain to him that your business expenses are a private matter that you do not discuss with anyone except your accountant.Stand your ground regardless.Tell him if he is unhappy with the price that he should settle up with you and then seek someone else to do his power washing.Over time when you are in business you will realize that there are some customers you just need to let go because they are too much of a pain in the rear and too cheap.Don t let him push you around. Your business is none of his business period.

Your mark up might be too high, but point out that the original cost of the chemicals does not include the costs of safely storing them. Produce the sales receipt of your pressure washer. The receipts for the chemicals is optional, in my opinion. If he is being a jerk, show him copies of all the reciepts-the pressure washer, the chemicals, the gasoline (to haul the stuff to his house), your insurance premiums, and the truck s sales reciept. Flood him with paperwork.

Why did you add a mark up? Because he takes 30 days? Unless otherwised noted that he has 30 - 60- 90 days to pay his bill then you should be up front and tell him you expect payment immediately after you finish your work. Do you use your own water on a truck mount or do you use your clients water supply? If you use your own you can produce a breakdown of water usage, gas for pressure washer, cleaning supplies, and hourly rate for labor. You might in the future state that payment is expected upon completion.
