HOW MANY MONTHS YOU GOT TO DECIDE YOUR YEAR END ACCOUNTING DATE, ONCE YOU START A NEW BUSINESS? -

You would normally make your accounts up to 12 months after the start date. You would certainly have to decide on a date by the time your first self assessment was due when you would need to enter the year end dates and at least some estimated figures.Mike is wrong - the tax year starts on 6 April, but a business can make its accounts up to any date. Statutory bodies use 1 April as a start date.

In the UK, the business year starts on the first of April.
