How hours is a salary Execuative Director of a small 3 employee nonprofit orginazation work, required to work? -

This small non profit orginaziton has a executive director and two part time employees. Two of her friends on the board are insisting the director get a $500.00 Christmas bonous because she is sometimes required to work over 40 hours per week. This orginization survives by fund raisers, donations and seldom grants and is usually very low on funds..

I served as ED of a nonprofit for a year. I took no salary, only a $200 month stipend for gas and tolls. If one wants to serve as ED, money should not be an issue - in other words, you serve for little or nothing.I would not think much of an ED who demands for money. Their heart is not in the right place.

The sad fact is that most non-profit boards are packed with friends of the ED.If the ED is shameless enough to accept a bonus based merely on the fact sheworks more than 40 hours per week occasionally (which should not be unusualor unexpected of an ED), there s little you can do about it.If you are a funder or volunteer, you can make your displeasure known and transferyour efforts to a more deserving organization.
