How to determine an even alpha split of patients last name. If there is only 2 categories (for example A-L M-Z hasnt proven to be even, there are far more last names in a-l rather than m-z) are there statistics to prove a more accurate alpha split?

The short answer to your question is: It depends. In huge databases of names (phone directories for example...) the median letter is K. That may not be the case in small applications however.Good Luck!
