It depends on the site where you plan to make the purchase. If it is a large retailer, like Wal-Mart, Macy s or Toys R Us, then you won t have a problem. If it s a small business site, do NOT enter your credit card information unless you see a yellow lock icon on the bottom right side of the task bar. This symbolizes that the site is secure and your information will be encrypted. In regard to damages, the seller cannot guarantee there won t be damages during shipping. It is the responsibility of the carrier to process items with care. To ease your mind, you should pay for insurance to protect the merchandise. As an online seller, I have shipped VHS tapes, for example, and they were cracked when they arrived. In another instance, I shipped shoes during the holidays and they never arrived. In both instances, the buyers did not pay for insurance and it caused problems.
Find a website that you trust that has a good return / shopping policies and use a credit card. Your bank protects you from fraudulent merchants, and as long as you pick a reputable company to buy from, there should be no problem. If you want to post the type of product you are looking to purchase, I would be happy to recommend some website that I would personally trust to make a purchase.
