a) You ALWAYS need a permit/license to start a business, if only to pay taxesb) You will need to get a reseller / retail permit as well, to pay sales tax and suchc) You have plenty ? A couple dozen is NOT plenty. Even a couple hundred. Got any friends in Gamestop and such? Have them just let you take a peek in their backroom used for storage. d) Did you do any research into LAWS that may affect you yet? If you buy used games, do you fall under the pawn shop law ? (In CA, pawn shops have to hold the object for at least 2 weeks to ascertain the material isn t stolen. At least one EB/Gamestop ran afoul of this rule when someone unloaded a used console and a dozen games on them. Later, detectives traced the goods to EB, informed them they were stolen, but they have already resold most of the stuff, and did NOT hold the stuff for 2 weeks as law required.)http://www.gamespot.com/news/2004/04/30/e) You can do mail order from your home, but you probably cannot do retail as your home is in residential zone. You ll need to figure out where is a suitable retail locationf) Write a business plan. There are software specifically for this, or you can download free templates online. You will need one to get a loan from the bank. g) if you have any employees, then labor laws are involved. Any research into that? or do you plan to work there 24/7? Research, research, and more research. Nothing wrong with dreaming, but you can t make it a reality with dream alone. It s all in the execution.

How to start a video game store? -
Its always been my dream to start my own store selling everything from computer games, xbox games, ps2 and 3 games, the works. Also, I wanted to also have the option to purchase games from customers, (kind of like the modern day Gamestop). However, theres a few things I needed help on. First off, I have plenty of games to start selling, but yet I dont know how to get started. I would love a detailed list explaining how to get started and stay going, *the longer the better* but theres a few conditions I need.1. In the state of North Carolina, do you need a permit/license to start a business?2. Could I start somewhere free and close to home/in home without renting out an entire shop?If there are ANY other variables that I didnt mention, feel free to add them to your answer. If you could, I would love to be able to take one of the answers I get, follow the guidelines, and be able to get at least a little business! And like always, thanks to those who answer.
