Why do stores ask for your zip code when making a purchase. It s not like they gain much from knowing which geographic area you come from, i normally tell them one i lived at years ago (out of state).Do you have to tell them or can you refuse?

Just for marketing to see where their customers live. If most of the customers live in one zip code, they will open a store there knowing they already have customers there. You don t have to tell them, it just helps them out where they should have stores.
