Requirements for Fashion Magazines? -

I m only 14 and I live in England but when i m older I want to work with well known fashion magazines such as Vogue or Elle, etc. I was wondering what sort of things would impress the managers, like grades in certain subjects or type of drawings/words..? Would I have to go to college/university to study a certain topic?

You would have to have a college in degree, probably in journalism, and possible a minor in a closely related field to what the magazine covers. Magazines usually don t have huge staffs so it s very difficult to land a job at one. Make sure that you direct your education so that if you can t get a job at one, you still have a degree that is useful elsewhere.

I am in the process of starting a small business, a one man operation. I am looking for something to help me learn accounting, invoices, proposals, and other related accounting things. Would a college course in this help, if so in what? What software would be helpful? Should I hire someone?

Quickbooks is fine but my accountant uses Peachtree Acounting software. Most all the CPA s she knows use it over Quickbooks. I have Peachtree here on my computer and it is easy for my accountant when I pass on a disc to her. It would never hurt to take a course in basic accounting to help you direct your business. Probably Accounting 101 and Marketing 101. Any introductory business course -even Business Law 101 would give you a great start in business. If you decide to use an accountant find what they would like for you to use.Good luck.

To start off your business, save the money and do the books yourself. There are two ways to account for your business, Accrual accounting - more complected, your goal is to match revenue with expenses. Ie, you buy a machine that will last 10 years, you depreciate that machine over 10 years (its life) to the revenue you earn over that time.Option two, Cash accounting. It is what it means, if you buy a 10,000 machine, you expense that machine right away. When you make 10,000 on a sale, you report that income and deduct your expenses. Now, there are still a few rules, my guess - since you don t give us the nature of your business, you will fit in this category. Now, I think the limit to write off a single piece or series of pieces of equipment is around 100k this year, it will be near that. If you really want software ie your going to be so busy you can t just do this in a spreadsheet, look at quick books - you can get it at best buy. You need to send your resume out to real jobs you are qualified to do. In your cover letter you need to state that you wish to work remotely, from your home office. Depreciation is usually done over 4 years. Doubt if you can depreciate clothing. For both it and the decorating work, you d usually set up a sinking fund to cover you for the cost of redoing/replacing them.It would be better to check these out with an accountant. Fixtures, fittings and equipment are usually over 4 years, as I said. Whatever period you do them over, it needs to be shown in notes to the accounts

There really isn t such a list. There are some companies that can provide such a list but they charge for the information.

I suggest you go to the court house most keep records of what are called the d/b/a forms a/k/a doing business as forms. You can also check with your secretary of state office they usually have Information on new corporations enterting the business market in your state. However each of these entities will usually charge a small fee for any list they produce. You may want to review your states Public Information Policy or ask the agency to tell you how they handle such a request.

What, legally, do I need to start a bakery? -

I have the experience, the place, the materials, etc. I m just lost as to how to go about getting started. I realize that there are permits, etc. required, but would appreciate any information you could offer as to what, specifically, that entails: what permit, license, etc. How much? What, in essence, is the process of applying, inspection, etc. to get started? Again, I can get the funds, etc. and don t plan to use any employees at first, so insurance, etc. isn t an issue either.
