What are inexpensive ways to advertise for an event business? -

One of my events is Murder Mystery Dinners. I would like to know how I can advertise without breaking my budget.

(1) Use a press release. You can write one yourself for free and send it to your local newspaper and ever submit it online for free. Your story can be picked up by several sources and published for free.Your press release doesn t have to be long or complex. Keep it under one page and provide newsworthy information about your upcoming event. If you can, create intrigue and curiosity and encourage your reader to take action - whether it be to purchase an event ticket or find out more information. How to write a press release and where to submit online:http://www.thenewbusinessidea.com/2009/1http://www.homebusinesscenter.com/freepr (2) Give away free tickets on a radio show, this can get your event some free press also. It s ideal if you have a website set up where listeners can get more information on your event - and an opportunity for you to advertise other upcoming events as well. (3) On your website, collect contact information from your visitors by offering a discount or special offer. This way, you can build your own list of interested customers that you can contact every time you have a new event coming up. Constant Contact and StreamSend are good email marketing resources.http://opt-in-email-mailing-lists.com/(4) Advice for setting up a website yourself and website hosting for under $10/month.http://www.estorebusiness.info/Small-Bus

You re killin me! Sorry, I couldn t resist the murder pun. Actually, Murder Mystery Dinners are the perfect kind of services that lend themselves to cost-effective marketing, largely because they target enthusiasts. And enthusiasts tend to talk among themselves, gather in specific places and do certain activities. You need to reach them in those places. The first thing I d do is set up a page on Facebook for mystery fans. On that page, you might create a blog about great mysteries in history. You might build debate about the best mystery books or movies of all time. Announce the worst actor to ever play a TV detective. The point of all this is to build buzz and conversation among devotees of murder and mayhem (fictional, of course). And you re also allowing people to self-select as fans of the genre, in turn letting you create a target market for promotion of your shows. There is so much you can do online -- Twitter comes to mind -- that would cost you almost nothing. As you build, you ll want to at least consider some search advertising. In the physical world, you want to build from the same vision of your target market, just with a better eye toward cost-effective marketing. Is there a bookstore in your city you could team with to target buyers of mystery novels? You might connect with an independent bookseller (it helps to know the owner) to create a win-win program in which the bookstore puts a Murder Mystery bookmark into mysteries they sell. Then you could give that bookseller a commission when tickets are purchased for your theater. You might even consider hosting a performance of the show at the bookstore. Finally, there are mystery dinner theaters in many cities. Go to school on how they promote, always looking for best practices you can incorporate into your marketing. And always remember, the butler did it.

I found a great book at my local library called Marketing without Money by Nicholas E Bade. Check it out!!! (pardon the library pun) ... If your local branch doesn t have it, ask about an interlibrary loan. If all else fails, buy the darn book on Ebay or Amazon. It will be a business tax write off.

Social Media Marketing is a great way to promote your event/business..FREE!

Why can t you try with some promotional giveaway? They are quite inexpensive and you could expect a good response rate. Visit Promo Direct Inc website for more information.

Can someone help me with this? Its a legal question.? -

Does anyone know what this means:The following section describes special conditions under which certain uses are permitted in a zoning district. A building permit or certificate of occupancy shall not be issued for any permitted use with special conditions until all of the required conditions have been met....Home occupation (residential). A home occupation is an occupation carried on as an accessory use in the main structure of home by a resident without the employment of additional persons, without the use of a sign to advertise the occupation, without offering any commodity or service for sale on the premises, which does not create obnoxious noise or other obnoxious conditions to abutting residential property such as emission of odor, increased traffic or generation of light or smoke. A home occupation shall specifically exclude the operation of a repair garage, plumbing shop or similar activity. Does this mean that I can run a small business out of my apartment? There would be no extra people going in and out of the apartment and there will be no signs or loud music. I would be the only person working there.

you probably could run a small business out of your apartment but there might be regulations from your landlord prohibiting it. also you need to be in compliance with all the tax laws and other laws. you should consult a tax attorney or a small business lawyer. you could also get info from the Small Business Administration (http://www.sba.gov/) in your area. they might have more information specific to your area that could help you answer your questions.

Don t take legal advice from Yahoo Answers!Ask the zoning board or whoever it is who generated the paragraphs that you re quoting to us. They re the only ones who can tell you for absolutely certain whether or not your home business will be allowed.

yes you can. Provided that it is legitimate....

It would appear that you could but would still be beneficial to check with the city you live in and landlord

Check with your landlord and the zoning dept.

All that is telling you in a nutshell is this....you can run your business from home...but it cannot be a commercial business were you have people stoping by and you cannot have any signs posted saying here is my business ...most city have this since more and more people begin working from home..no big deal....if you are the sole proprietor you should have no problem...getting a permit or license to do business from home......just like an Real Estate salesperson.....this applies to appartment dwellers only....if you have a home...that s a whole diffrent senario....(this information was supplied to you as advise only...and i am not an attorney...for specific zonining requirements consult with you local chamber of commerce.
