Wedding and/or event planners? -

How would I go about starting my own wedding and event planning business from home (not an office-unless my business grew)? Where do I get samples from? How do I charge? How do I advertise? 21.5 months ago, I was laid off from work; I did accounting and payroll. Over the past year and nine months, I have been unsuccessful in finding a new job. I thought perhaps starting my own business might be the way to go; however, I have no idea where/how to start.Any and all advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Like I said the library has all you need to know, not only to help make an educated decision but a decision worth going back to school and learning for. (rule of thumb) if it s easy,,,,, it s not worth much.

Starting a business is definitely a good idea. You need to decide what you want to do. A wedding / even planner is an extremely competitive industry. There s hundreds or thousands of these businesses all over the place. Not to say it isn t possible, but generally it s a good idea to have some strategic position or specialized experience to get a foothold. Also, business like this is often marketed via word-of-mouth, so it can take a while to build up a solid customer base.As for charging, you need to investigate what the market expects, the quality of service you can provide, and whatever factors will affect your cost.

As already stated, this is a pretty competitive industry these days. That said, the wedding industry seems to keep chugging along regardless of the economy. I d take a look at the events services section of your local Craigslist to see what the competition is doing in your area. Take a look at their websites, and call them to see about prices. I ve also seen a LOT of books and mini-courses out there about this so it definitely is a pretty popular home business. There are even a number of books on Amazon.Hope that helps, Christina.

How do we offer finance to our customers? -

We are a young business designing and building garden rooms. We lose customers who love our buildings because we don t provide finance. I ve googled, but companies offering us finance come up. Is there anyone out there who had done this recently for their business, or are you a company which provides this service. Many thanks for helpful replies.

Set up a basic credit criteria, in which based on your clients credit score or certain qualifying options that you create, you base your credit line. Ok to make this easier, you could for example use a 90% credit line for clients whose credit score (or other certain criteria because companies sometimes don t look for a certain score but more or less other items they deem necessary) is 800 or more and it goes down from there...so as if a new client you have has a 500 score you could issue them only a 10% financing line. Second, after you set your standards, go ahead and work out your governing contracts, what is your interest rate (check with other similar companies in the field)? What is your late fee and when are payments due..how about penalties? Boy, that s enough for now huh!

I wanna start a home-based business, where to get reliable suppliers? -

Bookkeeping for selling abroad, advice plz? -

Hi!I m going to sell stuff to other EU country by internet, set a bank account over there, so people could easily pay for bought items.Every so often,I want to take money from foreign account and pay them into my UK business one. But I ve no idea, how to record it. Any advice? Or where can I go and ask for cheap? Thanks for Your help

Speak to your local Business Link. Their help is free and they re really good on imports and exports.Do you need to have another bank account? Why not use Paypal and accept payment in Euros as well as sterling? That way you just make a transfer from your Paypal into your business bank account without needing to make any special records. The only point at which you ll need to watch how you record it is if you reach the VAT threshold - around 67k turnover - as they require you to show goods bought and sold in the EU separately.Good luck!

Do you have to share gratuities with the house? -

A relative of mine began working at a store that has a tip jar. At the end of the day the employees on shift divide the tips for that day equally. Recently the owner decided that the house should get a share even if the owner isn t working that day. Is this legal?

There is nothing illegal in the US or Canada. It is just a moral issue. I think the owner and the workers should work out something themselves.
