I want to start a business. But i have little money. What type of business can i start with little to no money that can become successful?

Nate, you first need to identify what skills you have. What are you passioate about? What are your hobbies? Are there any needs/opportunites that you can identify in your neighborhood? Within a lot of starting capital to go buy an existing business/franchise, you may want to do some local research and analysis of things closer to you. You ll probably end up spending tons of money on shipping - and then you get the added pleasure of waiting for the item to arrive from overseas (which it probably won t). Just buy one off craigslist - of course be sure to check it out for a few minutes before paying cash for it and taking it home. There s not really any Mexican flat-screen TV manufacturers that I know of. Either use craigslist with cash or buy one from a store near you - your chances of being scammed are drastically reduced.

I am not a tax consultant. I think you have to fill out your business taxes in one state and your personal taxes in the other state. If you only fill out one set of taxes, then you have to pay taxes to both states for everything. You should hire someone anyways if you own a business. They will remind you of more tax write-off s than you knew existed and the laws change every year, so in the long run, it is better for you. If you ever get audited, then you will be prepared.

You can do it yourself, but it still won t be free. You can do the DBA name at your local city office, usually. They will issue your city biz license and the dba name. It will cost some money, but much less than having someone else do the work for you. However as a business, you will also need an EIN number, if in the US, so you can pay taxes, unless you re doing this as a sole proprietorship. Keep in mind that if you mess up in the business, your personal property can be affected in a sole proprietorship.

When does a hobby become a business? -

I am in the final stages of getting a business plan off the ground, and hope in the next few weeks to start producing a product to sell in my spare time. You would need to apply for an ABN no. to register a business name. I don t believe this is expensive - just a formality. I would visit an accountant to get some advice to set up some basic bookwork. You don t need any license as far as I know. It s very hard to get approved for any sort of credit card processing, and I think Paypal prohibits this as well. But as long as you re not selling tobacco, there s nothing additional from any online retailer that needs to be done.
