I am an electrician, looking to start up my own buissness, how do i go about it? -

i am a qualified electrician to 17th edition, i am looking to start my own buissness, but have no idea how to go about it. what other qualifications do i need? part p? 2391 inspection and testing? any infomation will be much appreciated!

It depends on what state your in. First I would go to your secretary of state and register a name. Figure out if you want a corporation or LLC. LLC is usually the best bet if you have a smaller company and plan on only having a couple employees or even just yourself. Find out what licenses are needed in your state. (you can usually find this out at your state offices as well) Then you need to insure yourself, call your insurance broker and they should walk you through it, having no employees you won t need workers comp, but you should have liability insurance. THEN ADVERTISE! I would recommend putting an add on yellow pages. It s a bit pricey, BUT worth it. It has helped our business greatly. After all of that, website, business cards etc. all are a big help. The right image is EVERYTHING. Next, put your networking pants on! Make sure all of your contractor friends know what you are doing. Great subcontractors are a great way to grow your business. I think it involves the use of a skill called reading applied to the company s required financial reporting, press releases, etc., than a skill called math to calculate prices based on those reports. Producing your own reports will require writing and hopefully editing

I am a CA small business owner with less than 20 employees. Do I pay all (my employee I have to lay off) of her monthly cobra benefit premium? and if so for how long? and what can I expect to pay each month (what do they base the premium on)?

Landlord is correct. It is not your responsibility to pay for your former employees COBRA.The employee remains a part of your plan but pays for the entire cost of her plan. Both her contribution, and the portion that you were paying for her. The premium should not change, but the premium is 100% the employee s liability and responsibility to pay. The second she misses a payment coverage will stop. You should contact your plan provider or your insurance agent. Or if you have someone that does your payroll and HR benefits, let them do it.
