I am an electrician, looking to start up my own buissness, how do i go about it? -

i am a qualified electrician to 17th edition, i am looking to start my own buissness, but have no idea how to go about it. what other qualifications do i need? part p? 2391 inspection and testing? any infomation will be much appreciated!

It depends on what state your in. First I would go to your secretary of state and register a name. Figure out if you want a corporation or LLC. LLC is usually the best bet if you have a smaller company and plan on only having a couple employees or even just yourself. Find out what licenses are needed in your state. (you can usually find this out at your state offices as well) Then you need to insure yourself, call your insurance broker and they should walk you through it, having no employees you won t need workers comp, but you should have liability insurance. THEN ADVERTISE! I would recommend putting an add on yellow pages. It s a bit pricey, BUT worth it. It has helped our business greatly. After all of that, website, business cards etc. all are a big help. The right image is EVERYTHING. Next, put your networking pants on! Make sure all of your contractor friends know what you are doing. Great subcontractors are a great way to grow your business. We own an HVAC biz and have an electrician we use everytime for all of our projects. Good luck!!! and Congrats on starting your biz!! :-)
