Where and how to get a DBA in New York State? -

I have been running a business for a while and recently merged with another company and I found out that I will get in a lot of financial trouble if I don t file for like a LLC, LTD, etc. But a friend told me that to get me by until I can get the money to get a license, I can file for a DBA in my state for my business. The one question is how and where to get this DBA?

Not with the Secretary of State.....Anyway, you have to file it with your County s registrar, for example, if you live in Los Angeles County, you would file it with the County of Los Angeles in Norwalk. Once you file it with the registrar s office, you will need to publish your fictitious business name in a newspaper for four consecutive weeks. At the end of the four weeks either you or the paper (most papers do this for you) need to certify it back to the county (just to prove that you ve met your printing requirements.)After that whole ordeal is done, then you can start your business account at a bank using your Proof of Publication :)Good luck!

You need to visit your Secretary of State s office. There is a form there with a fee, but it will make your company a legal DBA until your other business entity is established.
