I think my sister is involved in a scam and I dont know what to do? -

So apparently this guy went into my sister s work (she works in fast food) and for some reason they were talking and he offered her a job. She is apparently supposed to be doing secretary stuff, plus making business cards and flyers and handling budgets. She has absolutely no background in this - she is going to community college right now. I think she took a class in high school for computers and I guess he said that was enough? And basically today she said he hired her - no test, no background check, didn t need a resume, nothing. And she is getting paid $20/hr. plus $600 per month for gas. And apparently she gets part of the company s overall profits. WTF?It is some solar energy company located in Grass Valley, Ca. To me, this sounds like the most ridiculous thing thing ever. But no one else seems to think it is weird. Am I going crazy? It seems like this guy is obviously up to something.

Yeah, this sounds fishy. Even if he is attracted to your sister he still should have completed a basic backround check so he knows who s working for him. This is a scam or the guy is a little sleazy,it s that simple. P.S you are NOT going crazy....lol.

Why don t you just ask her for the name of the company and then look it up on the net? If it s even half-way reputable, it should have a web site - right? You could also try looking it up on the Better Business Bureau website (BBB). One other thing, is your sister under age 18? If she is, I hope that the business (scam or not) is following child labor laws...

Hello there,I agree with you. It does not sound right to me. That is not the way businesses are run. Your sister should be cautious. If you know the name of the business, you could start checking it out by searching for the business name at the Secretary of State s Office. That will tell you if the business actually exists.Later,

Sound like a scam to me, especially offering 600$ for gas money. Have you tried to contact this so called company ? Or make an anonymous visit to the address? Check out their website?

Maybe he thinks she s hot and has money to burn or maybe you are just underestimating your sister.

What ways do you get your clients if you have a service business? -

What percentage is from advertising? word of mouth? or other ways? Do you get clients from just giving your elevator speech or random talking to people you meet as you go about your day?....I would rather not advertise was wondering if I could be successful with just talking to people at the grocery store or attending community events or parties. I would like some insight on this. If you do have results from just meeting people, how do you do what you do to get the client to set up an appointment?

Depending on your business. You attain clients by knowing your niche, knowing your target market, and knowing every aspect of what your selling. You know these things you will know how to start. Try doing a business plan outline. Cut and paste this and print it out. Answer all the questions you can and then you will see what you need and what you need to know. Once you see it on paper its totally different.http://www.business-plan.com/outline.htm

Direct contact is good, but also putting up signs in schools, supermarkets, church bulletin boards as well as advertising on the internet and ads in local newspapers could help. If you wanted to maintain your privacy though, have a dedicated phone number that you would only use for business, and on the ads I would only put the phone number but not your address until people call you and want to do business. If somebody calls tell them you are on the other line and that you will call right back that s what taxi service do and it avoids problems Good Luck PS I wouldn t use your real names for your firm but something generic like Here to Help, or Home Beautification, Inc. That ll ensure you even more privacy
