I have a question about contracts? PLEASE HELP ME!!? -

I m getting married in 2 days!! (NOVEMBER 7th). I had paid to have my reception at a ballroom in a hotel and I signed a contract about 2months ago that CLEARLY stated that the final price would be around $5,000 with a deposit of $1,000. Well today I went in to make sure everything was ok and TODAY they handed me a new contract that said there was an addition of over $6,000 which would bring the total to around $12,000. IS THIS POSSIBLE!! Can they just change the contract on me 2 days before my wedding??I m really stressing because that s too much money added for just one night. I don t understand how they could do that to me when I still have the original copy which mentions nothing about this addition. They said it s for security guards and other stuff. Is there a law where they can just change a contract like that? I really don t know what to do? Should I go ahead and pay or is it worth fighting for. They told me I have until tomorrow by 3:00 pm. I can t cancel my wedding because I invited over 800 people and all my invitations are out already!! WHAT DO I DO? Shouldn t they have called me 2 months ago when I signed the contract? THIS is just SOOO ridiculous. Pleaaase tell me if this is possible I need some quick answers!!

There s no telling. People sneak all kinds of tricky stuff in on contracts and some just break them knowing there isn t much you can do about it. They know it s too late to cancel and move the wedding so I expect this is just a way to extort some more money out of you at the last minute. You should always have your contracts reviewed by an attorney before signing. You may want to consider taking your contract to an attorney to review and have him/her write them a letter or make a phone call for you if the hotel is wrong. I doubt you ll be able to get in with this short of a notice though. At this point what I d do is find out any hotel or hospitality organizations that they belong to and their contact info, also get contact info for you local BBB, state attorney general or consumer protection agency, if they are subject to federal regulation the FTC and any other agency with regulatory authority over them, and the home office if they are a chain. I d go in and tell the manager that if they don t honor the contract I will call and file a complaint with everyone on the list and will go on every hotel rating or review website I can find and also contact the local newspaper and tv stations. If he still doesn t honor the contract start making those calls right there in front of him and start with the media.Due to the timing it won t be much help in this situation, but you might want to consider a Pre-Paid Legal plan so you can have access to an attorney for advice, contract review, letter writing, and other services to deal with issues that will come up in the future without having to pay that big attorney bill. You can email me at jdevlin@practiceservices.biz if that s something you want to look into.

reread ur old contract REALLY good. I really don t think they can add to it, unless u added something else for your wedding and it would say on old contract that if u add something after signed, then its voided . I d fight it though, that s A LOT of money to waste, and really it would be a waste if you do spend that.A wedding doesn t need to cost much, my parents got eloped, with 2 random people as witnesses, and they ve been married 21 years! Some people will spend thousands and thousands, and won t make it through the year...And don t take it to offense.......But don t spend that much, they can t switch it like that!

Can i get DJ liability insurance for a single party? -

I m djing independently but only really do house partys and things. I ve been asked to dj a reunion and need to get insurance just for this party. can i get insurance just for the party? or do i have to buy it for the year? thanks in advance

What do you need insurance for? You re a performer they ve hired; if anything, their insurance should cover any injury YOU sustain in the course of the evening, unless for some reason they expect you re going to harm a guest, but again that guest s harm is covered by their policy because they re the ones who brought you in. It sounds to me like the organizers are pretty new at this. To answer the question, yes you can buy short-term insurance, and it isn t very expensive. I paid about $30 for a $1-million policy when I rented a charity booth at a shopping centre for a weekend. Contact any local insurance broker to make arrangements, but again, you buying one is totally unnecessary.

You can get insurance for a single event. However, my suggestion is that you just get an annual policy. It shouldn t cost more than $300.

What type of attorney do I need? -

I will be starting an LLC with 3 other individuals. LLC documents and a subscription agreement have been drafted up for my signature. The attorney that did this represents one member (and will also represent the LLC) and this attorney practices real estate law which is the business that member is involved in. What type of attorney do I take this to so that they can interpret the material for me and so that I can protect my interests?

It is a conflict of interest for the attorney who represents one of the LLC members to also represent the LLCLet him chose one or the other, but not bothThe LLC needs an attorney who works on business formationsEach member may want to get representation for their own interests

Client got away without paying us. It cheeses me off.? -

My husband did a $2500 job for a client who them went under. The thing is the parent company is still going strong and has a flashy website etc. It really upsets me. It is all with the company receivers now etc, but the chance of us getting anything is zero. Some other poor sole lost $20,000. What would you do apart from warn others about them? They are in another state.

Don t feel bad this world feels like everybody is out for their own. I had a company I put 2.6 years into building they owed me 8k likely 30k to date. We just move on we live and learn.

If you let it cheese you off too much, you re in the wrong line of work.I have a $6,500 debt to me that is more than 450 days old.I have an $8,000 debt to me that is 375 days old.

You could always try and submit your invoice to the parent company or one of it s subsidiaries Depending on how big they are they, they may have poor controls around approving invoices.

You could always sue them, but it s business, sometimes it happens.

Advice on starting a business for my son? -

My son has had a business idea his friend used to run a business delivering milk to Commercial premises ie (Shops, Pubs, Hotels, Cafes, ect) His friend has since give up the business and moved abroad. My son seems to think that he had a cracking business so he is thinking about doing the same thing he has asked me to lend his 10,000 to get started I would love to set him up but I would like to now more about it ie (How much it will cost him to buy the milk and how much he could sell it to the corner shops for) as he dose not seem to now a lot about it but on the other hand he is a hard worker and I think if we new a bit more about the trade he would make a really good go of it and I would back him all the way ANY ADVICE WELCOME THE MORE INFO YOU HAVE THE BETTER.

Go to the local dairies and ask. They probably supply the delivery vehicles on a hire basis. I expect your son s mate gave it up because his income was declining. And it probably still is. You need a business plan.

I think having a third party resource that could sit down with both of you and map out the statistics, costs etc to see if it really is a viable business. This way the pressure is not coming from you and the 3rd party may provide some insights you son has not seen. Have your son get a business plan in place and then re-consider the investment. [Along with that, there needs to be a re-payment plan in place]

10,000 is a huge amount, apart from a van what would the rest be for. You will find that the market for milk is stitched up. The people we used for our catering business could not make any money from it as the larger firms could charge lower prices. As a starter ask at a few shops or restaurants and see who their suppliers are. I think you will find it will be one of several large companies who buy milk by the thousand gallon and re bottle it themselves.

Why are you asking this question. If your son is serious about starting up this business then HE will go and find out all these facts and figures, If he wants you to invest in his business then HE has to come up with a good business plan. He should not be asking you for money unless he can prove on paper that the figures add up, and no investor with any sense would take on a project without the facts and figures being presented to him. Being a hard worker is no guarantee of success if the figures simply do not add up. He should have come up with a detailed business plan before he asked you to even consider backing him. If he won t go and find out these details then he is not committed to the idea. Don t risk your hard-earned cash on this venture unless he is prepared to do the leg-work. It is very easy to risk someone else s money!

Suggest to your son that he contacts his local Business Link for free help and advice on starting his business. They can help with things like his business plan, which is essential before starting any venture and particularly if you re asking someone to invest in it.As has been said elsewhere, 10k seems a lot for what he s proposing to do. As part of his plan he does need to show how he s going to repay that money. It s also strongly advisable that you set up a formal agreement between the two of you, if he does go ahead and you lend him some money to start. It should set out exactly who has put up what, the effects on ownership of the business, what happens if there s a dispute of any sort and what happens in the event of the business failing. Most disputes in business are about money so it s easier to have an agreement in place before you start rather than trying to thrash things out in a crisis. (My husband and I have had agreements between ourselves in all our business ventures.)As has also been said elsewhere, if he s going to run this business, he should be the one doing the legwork and finding out about it. I fired my son from one of our businesses when he wasn t pulling his weight.

What steps do u take to OPEN A DAY CARE HOME / CENTER? -

There s many many rules and you have to have a license... they re attainable at Community Colleges..

If you do open one, I d hope you wouldn t try to teach them to spell, or teach them to speak English. Also, do it like daddy day care.

You don t. Judging by your spelling, I wouldn t recommend you try and take care of a puppy, much less a child.

Find out what the licensing and laws are in your state.

I have built a mailing list of several thousand. How do I go about selling it? -

Make a database and advertise it to mail order companies.

As a retail manager how will you achieve business by decision making focused on price offer and demand pressur? -

You mean supply and demand? The higher the price the less people would want to buy the product, but more profit for youThe lower the price the more people would want to buy the product, but less profit for youThe right price will bring the proper amount of demand = adequate profit

What legal measures do I have to take to start selling clothes I make? -

I am a designer and will be selling my clothing wholesale and consignment, but I m having trouble figuring out exactly what legal measures I have to take. (ie. trademarks, business license, labeling, content labels...)I want to be thorough as possible before I get my things out there. I m going to be starting out with dog clothes, then progress into women s wear and swimwear.Hope someone can help me! Thanks!

As fashions change at a very fast pace, it is not economical to do registered trademarks for everything (only the business name main logo maybe slogan). A simple trade mark (TM) after the name of individual garments will do. For a license, yes you will need one for wholesale. For tags you can have the company name (if you want) but you are required to tell what it is made of what percent, the size, and how to clean it.

Well, assuming you want to make sure the clothes aren t reproduced in some way you don t want them to be, you should contact an attorney who can guide you through the process. You ll need one anyway when you want to incorporate. Best of luck!
