How much should I charge for computer services? -

I already have some pricing set up, but I would like some feedback/suggestions. I do web design (HTML), but mostly PC repairs/upgrades. For example, how much should I charge to add RAM to a computer?Thanks for any advice!

Call up the most well-known computer repair shop in the area and ask them what their price is, and cut it. I m going to go half. I live in a small town, and there isn t a single shop in town. Everyone takes their computers to a Best Buy to get them repaired. The prices are outrageous, and the results completely unsatisfactory.$40 + the cost of the RAM to add it is good, I think. Seriously, it takes like ten minutes. If you re slow.

i would call up three or four local competitors to see what their prices are for the services i want to offer. i would then create a spreadsheet of 3-4 items per competitor and put it all in a matrix. this will give you a fair idea of what the market you re in is willing to pay for your services. go by your gut feeling. sometimes when you talk to customers, you get an idea of how much they are willing to spend. ask customers who are price shopping how much they perceive the value of your service is. that will knock some reality into your pricing and help you correct upward or downward for next time. by the time you re on to your 10th customer, you will have a fairly good idea of pricing. good luck.

It looks like everyone is unanimously saying to walk in . I however wouldn t automatically say this. I own a business and I prefer that they do not come in to give me a resume. I prefer to receive the resumes via email and then invite qualified candidates in for an interview. I say this as a warning only though. It really depends on the type of job you are applying for. If it is at a big company then it is unlikely you would even get to see the person who is doing the hiring. If it is a small company then your chances are better and if it is a really small company then you might even be able to make a job for yourself. For example ask yourself what do I like to do? and what am I good at? I hope you are looking for a job that has to do with your answers. That will make you more confident. If you are good at something and think you can help someone else make more money by doing it then you could go in to their office, not just with a resume, but with a plan. Tell them how you believe you can make them money (or save them money) and then ask for the chance to do it. That would impress a business owner. They want to hire people they can trust, who will take ownership of their position, and help a company grow. I ve never had anyone contact me through my profile so I don t know how to do it. Look. someone has a stack of applications that they have to go through. You show up and if they choose you they can forget the others. Act enthusiastic. Don t worry about self-confidence--this is the way you will build yours. By taking care of business instead of acting like a little baby. Internet only is good for non-local applications.

In person, most definitely! If you show up in person you can have the chance to show that you are sure of yourself and your answers. Just practice in front of the mirror, it sounds stupid but it works. Walk in with your resume. It is harder for them to ignore you if you are standing there in person. Plus they are getting a first look without committing themselves. If you are too shy to walk into a shop or restaurant then I am sorry for you.

I hear business administration, business management, human resource management, accounting, entrepreneurship and small business management are seperately but why? What is a major where i will be taking classes in accounting and human resource management..im really confused

Where does your interest lie? Human Resources is for someone who will handle the employees (payroll, benefits, etc.) Accounting is for someone to handle the money, like a CFO, Entrepreneurship is and small business mgmt is for people who intend on running their own business. If you are looking to run someone elses business, go for bus admin or bus mgmt. Your choices are all dependent on what you intend to do in the future. If you are planning on starting your own business go for the Entreprenuership and minor in small bus. But be sure to take classes in accounting and HR so that you are not solely dependent on allowing other people control your money - that will get you in trouble.
