Laundry detergents are actually a mixture of a detergent and a vegetable gum that traps dirt and prevents it from being redeposited on the clothes. Unless you have millions of tens of millions of dollars to invest you will be buying your feed materials. The machinery to mix the detergent and press it into cakes is available off the shelf and would probably cost in the half million to one and a half million dollar range. I should tell you that this idea has been tried before and was not a success.

I used to work in a clothing shop that had pre-numbered receipts. We used to write up the various merchandise, tax, and total on the receipts. For instance, we d write something like Blouse, $60, slacks, 55, Subtotal $115 and then we d calculate the tax and add up the subtotal and tax to get the total. If we didn t have the pre-numbered receipts, we could easily write up a receipt, take the money from the customer, make change, and then take that sales money out of the register and put it in our pocket, and not submit the store copy of the receipt. The books will balance, until it s inventory time. Even when the inventory comes up short, the loss is blamed on shrinkage, which could mean that the employees are dishonest, or it could mean that some of the merchandise was shoplifted, or a combination of these two factors. When the receipts are pre-numbered, if an employee tries to take the cash for the merchandise, she can t just destroy or fail to submit the receipt, it will leave a gap in the numbering sequence. Her boss or the accounting department will wonder why the sequence goes from #289 to #291. They will insist on finding receipt #290. If the transaction on #290 was voided, then both the customer and store copy of the receipt will be submitted, to prove that a receipt wasn t falsified.
if you visit sunbelt business brokers site- there are 100 s of businesses for sale across the country. They list the revenue and gross profit of each one. Most sell at a price of about 1 or 2 times annual sales. Some have 10% gross profit- some up tp 30%. This is imporatnat since the higher the profit margin, the more mistakes you can afford, I was surprised -in surveying this site-that sandwhich stands are quite profitable- don t require highly skilled help- and you get to go home at 5 PM. Maybe $15 000 is too little to buy one that s operating- but I bet you can start one for that amount.offer to work at one for a while to learn the suppliers, the seasonailities, the health inspectors etc. etc.2 things you should NOT do- buy a car or any consumer good, or take a vacation.alternatively- take a course!
