How do I go about getting a small bus loan for a start up bakery business, with no start up money on my own? -

I am a single Mom, looking to start up a baker business. My personal credit is not that great, and no start up cash avail. But great community needs a bakery. The profit would be great on this business. Are there grants or loans that can help?

Convex gave you some great advice.Assuming you have a business plan in place with one,three, and five year projections and some sort of financial goals, you may have a shot at something. I would stay away from credit cards, and banks. Try for smaller loans from family and friends and thier friends.Keep good records and pay them back as fast as you can.Take a look at Prosper.com and similar sites.

In this economy with not great credit? Not likely. But not impossible. First you need a formal business plan. Call your local code enforcement officer and find out what permits are needed and their cost. Would you need to appear before any planning or zoning boards? What would you need for insurances and that cost. What about location where would a good location for your bakery be and what would that cost. There is a lot of leg work to do. The more you have the answers to these and a lot of others the better idea you would have of what kind of money you would need. The more of these questions you can answer definitively the easier it would be to get someone to loan to you.

Has anyone tried the SMC work @ home program? Did it work at all?

My best friend actually works with SMC, and he likes it so far. It s not as easy as the they make it sound, but you still can make money with it. You do have to be able to talk to and appraoch people, and you can make a living off of it. It works the same way as avon or mary kay does. despite people thinking this isnt a legit company or whatever, it really is. If you don t think this is a good idea then you should also derive from buying from avon or mary kay.

Basically what SMC is is that you sell merchandise / products at a higher price that you bought them for. You can do that yourself without going through a middleman such as SMC. You can sell your products on Ebay and pay less money (for Ebay fees) than if you were to choose the SMC program.Like the other person who replied has said do some checking around about SMC and you will find that they have a lot of complaints against them!

Look for the book In Business For Yourself by Bruce Williams. It is a good introductory guide to starting your own company.
