How can you become a Courier with your own normal car? -

I have a small sedan and am wondering how I could become a courier with my own car.I often see normal looking cars around with COURIER written on the sides in white text and wonder how they become one with little cars.Does this mean that you work the same hours as the Van drivers or go longer distances etc?Can anyone help me out with this?

Sounds like you want to become an independent contractor to a courier company. Not knowing the area you are from I would start by looking at the Yellow Pages under Couriers and Delivery Services and call some to see what it would take to get started working for them. I would recommend calling the most well known courier companies in your area first; smaller companies may not have the customer base to give you steady work. Most courier companies prefer the vehicles to be trucks or vans but do keep available smaller cars to handle the smaller packages and runs, especially in congested downtown areas of cities. There is a company in my town that only has small cars. Remember as an independent contractor you are responsible for all expenses of your vehicle; gas, oil, maintenance, insurance etc. You will also be responsible for your own taxes; the company wont withhold any taxes. You may also incur uniform rental or purchase cost, cell phone or two-way radio rental or purchase. You will definitely need to have business insurance on your vehicle and cover all your bases on having your vehicle marked with some companies name you arent directly employed by. Other words dont put XYZ Courier on your vehicle if you insurance doesnt allow it. Marking your vehicle with a company name opens up some liability issues if you are ever in an accident. There is always that person out there looking to get in to an accident with a company vehicle just for that juicy lawsuit. Will you get any special runs because you have a car, maybe. Its unlikely that the dispatcher will send a 30 foot box truck to pick up an envelope to be delivered 50 miles away. Hope this helps a little.

you will need to get the car insured fior business use, may have to get a special registration with the PUC

Do I need any specific college credits to obtain a business license? -

I m a 19 yr old VA resident and i plan on opening a recording studio / club within the next 2 years. I know that I will need a business license, but I don t want to waste time taking classes that I don t need. Thanks in advance for the help.

No, you don t need any college credits at all to obtain a business license. A business license is just for taxation purposes. However, in order to have a better shot at succeeding in your business, you should either take some classes (like Accounting, Management, Human Resources, etc.) or have access to a team of people knowledgeable in those areas. You will also need an accountant, an attorney, an insurance agent, and a banker.Check with your local SCORE office and/or local Small Business Administration office for further information.

Anybody can get a business license even if you don t have an education. Talk to your local chamber of commerce regarding what steps you need to take to get it since different municipalities have different requirements (fees, locations, etc.). They are a great source for not only getting a license but helping actually establish the business and keep it running efficiently.

A business license doesn t require anything but money. However, business courses would be very valuable.

How long is one business day and what does it mean? -

i was wondering because when i order shipments, they always say, 1 or 2 business day

You ll get it between 1 and 2 days, not counting any weekends. So if you order on a Friday, you won t get it until Monday or Tuesday.

a business day is monday to friday usually 9 to 5 .. this is the time when the ups/fed ex. etc etc are at work collecting and distributing mail .. they do not work on weekends and therefore if you order something on a friday you will not get it until monday or tuesday !hope this helps !

9 am to 5 pm is standard but sometimes 8 am to 4 pm

A business day just means a week day, Monday thru Friday, it does not include weekends.

8hrs

How does one go about selling them self? -

I am a semi-professional magician and business is fairly well. I am looking to book more shows though than I am currently getting. Are there any proven or maverick ways of selling yourself?

Be honest, most people can see past crap. But you need to be energetic as well. Those are the two key things the rest comes with experience.
