Is it legal for a website to say its not responsible for items lost in the mail ? -

under their shipping policies, they use royal mail and say that you can pay extra for it to be sent recorded and signed for, but if you were to pay the regular postage, and the items get lost, they are not responsible. Is that even legal? Why should we have to pay more for the postage, if an item does not arrive, should they as a retailer take it up with royal mail instead of telling the customer too bad ?

Well it s perfectly legal for them to say that, it just has no basis in reality:As Masked Landlord points out, the contract is between yourself and the seller, nothing to do with the courier, the seller is liable for breach of contract. If you want further reassurance distance selling regulation in the UK says that you have a legal right to receive your goods from the seller in a timely manner, usually interpreted as 30 days... no exemption like unless they get lost in the post or unless its the courier s fault, in which case you ll have to sort it out with them !

Yes, its legal.Once they ve paid for postage and the items have been dispatched, then its the responsibility of Royal Mail to deliver the goods. By paying extra for a recorded delivery you have an extra guarantee (from Royal Mail, not the vendor) that the goods will be delivered, and a better chance of tracking them down if they do go astray. If the disclaimer was clear on the website and you were given the option to buy the better service from Royal Mail, then the vendor really hasn t done anything wrong. Sorry.

I disagree with the other posters. If you pay a company a p p charge, then you are paying them for the delivery of the goods. If they do not deliver them, it is their responsibility. Who they choose to sub-contract that to is up to them. There are 2 contracts in this scenario1) You Seller2) Seller CarrierThere is no contract between you and carrier, so you have no rights in that respect.According to the Sale and Supply of Goods to Consumer Regulations 2002 the goods remain at the sellers risk until they are delivered to the consumer.

no its not illegal, same when you go to a post office and send something out, you have to pay that litle bit extra for it to et to its destination 100%

Thinking about running a Business? -

Me and some friends decided we wanted to open up a sporting goods store of our own and hire mostly family or really good friends.what we wanna know is:1. What type of schooling do you need?2. How much money can we potentially make?3. How much will it cost to open up a store of our own?

let me clr it first that if u starting a buiz than follow it-Too frequently, a new entrepreneur will underestimate how much money it will take to start a business. The result is usually that the owner ends up in a cash flow pinch, and that s a tough time to have to go out and find financing. It s important to anticipate how much money you will need, and do some contingency planning around where you will be able to get it. How much you need depends on how you are defining your business -- that is, it depends on your Business Plan. I know, I know, some people who will tell you that you don t need a business plan. Don t believe them. As a minimum, outline:What will be the cost of any equipment you will need to buyWhat will be the cost of any inventory you will need to startWhat will be the cost of services you will need in Year 1 and Year 2. Include business services (phones, Internet, etc.) and professional services (accountant, attorney, etc.)How much will it cost you in Year 1 and Year 2 to rent or lease the space you will needHow much money will you need to live on during Year 1 and Year 2There are other factors, but you can use these to estimate how much working capital you will need. Consider this a minimum number.NextEstimate what your product or service will sell for. Make a conservative estimate of how many of those you expect to sell in Year 1 and Year 2.

I m not trying to be rude, but not all of these questions can be answered without more information. Each business is unique, but I ll do my best.1. No formal schooling is necessary to run a business, but common sense and business savvy is necessary.2. Really, the sky is the limit... Now, the amount that is realistic is dependent upon the business type, your location, etc.3. This also depends on what you re doing, the size of the store, the cost for your inventory, the amount of employees needed, etc.Start here...www.sba.gov (assuming you re in the US)If you re not in the US, try to find a local small business association. Many local organizations have free or low cost programs which include business planning, aid in getting financing, and answers to these types of questions.Good luck!

You should never start a business with, or hire family members/close friends. Personal feelings get too involved in the work place. It s never a good idea.1. Not sure.2. Depends on how much business you guys make.3. It takes A LOT of money to start a business.

Website ideas? I need some! I would really like this to turn into a discussion where lots of people contribute? -

I have a few up my sleeve... just asking this question gave me the idea of setting up a website based on a forum for people to discuss ideas and form partnerships.Or, ive heard theres a lot of potential for websites where you buy articles off another website (search google) and obviously they all have to be related to a specific subject such as gaming, finance, law, environment etccc and so use that as your content and use adsense/ypn to bring in money and then when you get a lot of hits, look for private advertisements specifically related to your subject.Anyone else care to contribute???
