Why would you want help from the government to help build your church? I ask this not to be sarcastic or to pick on anyone of faith, but I m wondering why you d even want the government involved in something that they re pretty much trying to stifle every year that goes by. Our church started as a Bible study in a home, then as it grew, moved to a small town hall (renting it with some of the money from the offering plate). A certain portion was set aside every month towards either buying an empty building or building a new facility. It took a few years, buy we raised enough to buy an empty building. And now, we ve bought another building (we out-grew the old one), and are remodeling it. We ve always paid cash, depending on the Lord for everything. This leaves us debt-free, and able to do other things in our community that other churches (who own huge mortgages) are not able to do. When you re debt-free, you have more freedom, and only answer to the Lord for direction, not the bank or the government. I leave with you this Scripture verse to consider...not to make myself seem more learned than you, but to guide you enrich your vision: I planted the seed, Apollos watered the plants, but God made you grow. It s not the one who plants or the one who waters who is at the center of this process but God, Who makes things grow. Planting and watering are menial servant jobs at minimum wages. What makes them worth doing is the God we are serving. You happen to be God s field in which we are working. Or, to put it another way, you are God s house. Using the gift God gave me as a good architect, I designed blueprints: Apollos is putting up the walls. Let each carpenter who comes on the job take care to build on the foundation! Remember, there is only one foundation, the one already laid: Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 3:6-11, from The Message. I wish you much success in your desire to carry on God s work in your community, as you prayerfully consider your next step. *)))
