Like you ve found out, they re still cheaper than other services, so they can get away with it. To get around this, get your parcel well under 500 g. See if it can fit into a shipping envelope--it can work for books, CDs, and clothes. Or if a number of items are going to the same person, bundle it all into a bigger parcel.

How can Canada Post rip people off like this? -
If you send a small package to international that weighs 500g or less its about $8 but if it weighs in at 501g the price jumps to nearly $15 Isn t that rediculous? Only 1g more and it increases by $7. They defended their horrible rate calculations by saying you only really overpay for smaller parcels but with bigger parcels it saves you money. Since most small parcels are around the weight of 1lb (around 500g) they are ripping off people much more often than giving them a deal. Unfortunately they are the only reasonable postal service to choose from. Sounds like a big scam to me.
