Does an employer have a right to instruct an employee not to make so-cal contact with a former client? -

As opposed to work related matters. UK LAW.

They can ask, but I cannot see how it is enforceable. Is their concern that you will pass on sensitive information? Or leave and join them?Ask for a written explanation and get some legal advice then. If they won t put it in writing, then you know the answer!

what is so-cal contact?if your interaction with client has nothing to do with business-purely social, then the boss has no authority to tell you not to contact themif is IS related to business with your company, then you could get fired for disobeying your boss

No they do not own you. What you do after work hours is up to you. The only problem would be if you were relaying private information about your company. If they sacked you for this you would have grounds to take them to a tribunal.
