A couple questions about getting a D.B.A.? -

1.What are the tax advantages2. Is the DBA public or private information (meaning can someone look up my company and see that I own it?)

Same answers as the two before me :)If you are looking for tax advantages you may want to explore some of the other options available to you. I m not positive about this, but a corporation sole where you are the employee of the corporation and are paid a salary might work. If there are other people involved, a limited partnerhship might be a good option. Candy

1) There is no tax advantage. DBA, also known as fictitious business name, is just another name. For example, instead of doing catering as John Doe, you want to be called JD Catering. It s STILL a sole proprietorship, just that you re John Doe dba as JD Catering. 2) DBA is public information. it s just a different name, and in almost all US jurisdictions, you have to publish that in a newspaper to make it legal, for a few weeks. VERY public info. ---Kasey C, PC guru since Apple II daysDig a well before you are thirsty; make friends now!

No tax advantages. It is public record.
