I am an independent contractor but i havent gotten paid in a month. is there anything i can do? -

i am suppose to get paid weekly

there needs to be more a what contractor why are you independent and not self employed. Why are you waiting to get paid and still working? what does your contract say? I think some guy hired you and to try to avoid paying taxes and insurance made you think your independent contractor. Now your bent over thanks for making it tough for all us legit guys hope you starve

Just because you re an IC doesn t mean you don t have rights when it comes to your pay. If you ve put in hours and have earned pay, then you need to go to the person you work for and have a talk. If they don t want to pay up, but agree you are owed money you need to go to small claims or your local workforce commission.

Been there. Tough call. There are parameters that are unknown to give you a solid idea. but, what I often do is buy my freedom . I go to the client and they owe me $100. I tell them, look, I have my parts in your equipment, I paid your sales tax and shipping.... will you at least pay for those , or $50/half. I barter down so that I can recoup my out of pocket expenses, then I do not go back there anymore.for you, an entire months wages, plus material I think.... that is a hard hit to take. Is it a job site where you have to keep up with everything else? Maybe there are other contractors with the same problem. talk to them, maybe they all will stop the work.Years ago in Kalamazoo Michigan, there was a hospital doing that to the contractors.... they kept giving excuses and finally it was done. they filed bankruptcy on the contractors and most everyone lost out... some of the contractors went under because of it. The hospital is still going and debt free.Make sure you read the contracts real close. there is just too much good work out there if you are dang good and honorable. A guy does not have to take the scrapping from the bottom.

Contact whoever is supposed to be paying you. This may be something you need to go to court over.
