How do i start my own business? -

I want to start my own business, the business would be selling jacket potatoes drinks etc from a trailer/van.How do i go from here, with not much money behind me i need info about grants, public liability insurance, everything to get started.

Hi Chelseafcforever,When it comes to starting a business, the best thing to do in the first instance is research everything you possibly can. Potential investors will want to see detailed plans to ensure that you are prepared for the challenge and that your ideas are financially viable. Visit businesslink.gov.uk which provides advice to get you started, including information about how much money might be available to you and how to go about applying for business loans and grants. From an insurance perspective, if you intend to hire staff, you are legally required to hold Employers Liability insurance. This will pay for any compensation claims for death or injury caused to anyone working for you. You should also consider public liability insurance. This type of policy will protect your business against a claim from members of the public (or customers) for death, bodily injury or damage to property caused by you or your staff. We have a helpful guide for Caterers on our site if you want more information about the type of business insurance you should be looking into: http://www.coverzones.com/caterers-insurance/Good luck!

I would suggest you check out The Small Business Administration (http://www.sba.gov/). This site will be your go-to site for understanding what is needed to start your own business. They provide instructions, guidelines and resources to get your business up and running.I know the thought of opening up your business may be in its very early stages, but you may want to check out or bookmark this site, http://www.l-trondirect.com/ once you get it up and running. My friend recently opened up a small retail store in town and he was looking for barcode scanners to track his inventory and purchasing point-of-purchase equipment, like those electronic signature pads you find at many stores near the checkout. This site was a huge help when it came to equipping the store to manage the product sold, capturing payment methods of his customers and whatnot. You may find this site useful in time.Best of luck to you!

it would help if you told us your locationIf you are in the UK, your first job is do complete a robust Business Plan, working out what money you need for starters, how about local competitors, where you ll buy stock, what bills you ll haveAs for insurance, you can easily get that on the internet, but you ll also need Food Handling certificate, also food hygiene certificatestraders licence etc and you can find out all that from your local council s websiteThe job centre have business advisors, they can offer support, but they won t offer any grants until you are physically trading, and they will need proofMy husband has recently started as a sole trader and has a snack business, but only got a grant of 500, after trading for 6 months, the money has to be used towards the business and can t be used for wages etcYou could approach a bank for a bank loan but they ll only give a loan if you re also putting up finance yourself

well basicallyu do a bit more research take a small loan out to be able to buy the van and cover 3 months of food think abit how much you have got what ll happen if you go bust, (liability) what physical resources you need where wil you set up. Research is the key hope this helps
