How to raise money to self publish a cook book for charity? -

Gathering a list of ideas on how to raise enough money to cover the costs involved in printing a cook book to sell for charitable purposes. We re not a charity, the book has been compiled by us and will be printed by us to supply to charities to then sell for profit. We don t really wish to fill the book full of advertising though we may have to. To sell inserts instead we would have to bag each book individually and feel it may make it unattractive to potential buyers - even if we provide a sample to flip through. Not sure on that one.Any ideas? Oh and definitely not interested in getting finance for it.

Glad to see you avoided those publishing packages and POD.Get a small amount of advertising sold in the book, in exchange for a few copies for them to use for giveaways or gifts when you go to print. Once you have that done, promote this fact on your website and then offer your book up for pre-ordering - perhaps the first 500 who pre-order go in the draw to win something? A good trade promotion like that is a great idea to get the word out about your book. Write a press release concerning your trade promotion and send it out to the local papers and post it where you can on the net. That s how I did it.

Sounds like the perfect scenario for self-publishing. Just Google self publishing and start looking around at different companies and what they have to offer. Instead of needing 10 s of thousands of dollars to publish, you simply pay for an all-inclusive package and the books are simply printed only after they have been sold or ordered online. This way it only costs a few hundred bucks or so and you can easily get that amount from a company to be the sole sponsor of the entire book (name on the cover and a few ads throughout). I don t have a specific company to refer but just check them out. Good luck...
