What should I get my degree in specifically if i want to get into the business side of the music industry? -

I am already in college and have started taking basic business courses but i have yet to choose a business major. I really want to work in the music industry. Any suggestions??

Well, some schools offer actual degrees in music business (either a music degree with a specialization in business, or vice-versa) - see the link below, for instance. Also, the University of Miami offers a music business degree. But for a general BA program at the average school, a basic business major would certainly give you some skills that could make you useful to the music industry. A lot of it will come down to your social network, so whatever you can do to meet the right people and get known is probably the most important thing. You might consider starting with a small indie label, perhaps even as a volunteer or intern.

There are now tons of universities that offer Music business majors. NYU, Berklee College of Music, Northwestern and Drexel are just a few. Keep in mind though that the music business has need of many different skill sets. There are Lawyers and accountants and IT people etc etc.I would suggest that you do your best to get an internship at a music company because knowing people and experience in the business is almost as important as your education.Best of luck,Rick
