Well, the short answer is you just start doing whatever it is that your business is in the business of doing. If your talking from a registration standpoint, visit the nearest state tax building (or visit the website) and fill out the paperwork to start a sole proprietorship (you, the individual, are the business). That s the easiest way to start a business, though it places all liability on you. An LLC or corporation (your business becomes a separate entity), both having quite a bit more complex registration process, will protect you and your personal belongings from lawsuits etc. That you are currently working has no influence on the process (registration-wise) of starting a business.

How to start a self-employed business in Illinois while working a full time employment? -
Hi there, first, my prospective business is not related to my full time job. And this would be my first time to start a business, and I don t know where to start. I ve been looking on State of Illinois Business Portal website for this category, but I can t find one. Can somebody help me, thank you in advance.
