How to start a self-employed business in Illinois while working a full time employment? -

Hi there, first, my prospective business is not related to my full time job. And this would be my first time to start a business, and I don t know where to start. I ve been looking on State of Illinois Business Portal website for this category, but I can t find one. Can somebody help me, thank you in advance.

Well, the short answer is you just start doing whatever it is that your business is in the business of doing. If your talking from a registration standpoint, visit the nearest state tax building (or visit the website) and fill out the paperwork to start a sole proprietorship (you, the individual, are the business). That s the easiest way to start a business, though it places all liability on you. An LLC or corporation (your business becomes a separate entity), both having quite a bit more complex registration process, will protect you and your personal belongings from lawsuits etc. That you are currently working has no influence on the process (registration-wise) of starting a business.
