Permits, license, etc for a 1 person online store? -

I want to sell hats online and am trying to figure out all the legal paperwork necessary to not get in trouble :)I am a college student in Santa Cruz, Ca and I want to create an online store to sell hats. Painted or knit hats. I am trying to find out what permits, zoning, licensing is necessary. I would be the only person involved in the business. I would sell them through the store and ship straight to the customer. I called the local zoning dept, but I think they are under the impression that this is a home business with employees and such.A friend told me if you make under x-amount of money, and pay taxes on sales, you don t need any permits or licenses for an online store.Any info (where to look, personal experience) is greatly appreciated.Happy Thanksgiving!

Technically speaking, there is no such thing as instant refund . What actually happens is you are extending a LOAN of the anticipated refund to the people who use you to file their tax return. Then you get the return, instead of them, and if there s any differences, it is resolved then. So it should be called tax refund advance loan , not instant refund. IRS does NOT work instant .

In other words, from the time I legally register the business to the time it takes to actually open for business, do I have to report earnings, taxes, etc., which, of course, will be zero?

in the UK the tax year runs April-March and you don t have to complete a tax return until you have completed a full tax year, and then it s not due in for some time after that, so you have plenty of time before you have to worry about this. But make sure you keep good records of all earnings and expenditure. It s worth having an accountant as things can get a bit messy otherwise. (I imagine you would want to declare your earnings (ie ��0) in the period before officially opening, because the lower your income for the tax year, the less tax you pay, but of course the costs of setting up are tax deductible)
