I would like to buy an already established business. Where is the best place to start my research? -

I would like to buy a tavern/bar in my city. What are the steps to take to find out if 1. it is for sale, 2. how much I should offer, and 3. how to finance the business? Any websites or resource suggestions would be great. Thanks ~

Do not even worry about if one is for sale or not. They are all for sale. Find a going concern that catches your eye and approach the owner you would like to have a conversation about buying his business. They will be complimented. But, do not ask if they want to sell! You must approach them from your interest in purchasing.A very big difference. You need to be set up to do this. Or, look for one that you know could be turned around with your expertise. do not buy the ones for sale. They are always dogs.

First step is to spend a couple of nights observing the traffic and quality of services. The number of customers will give you a rough idea of the gross sales for the business. From there and your knowledge (first hand or rented) you should be able to get to a rough idea of a P/LThat gives you a rough idea of the selling price.Finance is out of my sphere of understanding.
