How Do I Go About Doing A Bit Of Modeling Just For Some Extra Money? -

It s not something I m looking to make a career out of. I ve been told a couple times I should model and I was approached by a model scout when I was 14(im now 21). It would be something different to do I currrently woek but would love to put myself out there for something else. Please let me know where I should begin, and I already know I should be getting paid not paying money to agencies.

Start with your local phone book. Look under Modeling Agencies. Then call and make appointments. What you need to look out for is these Modeling SCHOOLS who require you to pay all this money to take classes and then they claim to place you in jobs afterwards. If you don t plan to take classes then you need to find agencies, not schools. REAL AGENCIES never charge you to do anything. There are scams out there who claim to be agencies but after they pump up your ego then they slam you with things like sign up fees or pay 300.00 to get your photos done, etc. . Again REAL AGENCIES DON T COST ANY MONEY. THEY MAKE MONEY OFF OF BOOKING YOU FROM THE CLIENT.If you don t live in a major state like CA, NY where modeling is big, it may be more challenging. Next, you can always do a Google search for modeling agencies out of your home state. Elite Models and other agencies may be looking for models. But again if you don t really have experience you may want to stay local. You should watch Tara Banks America s Next Top Model on TV and see what models go through. I s not all about a pretty face. YOu have to have some real talent to present certain looks. Then decide what type of modeling. Print model, runway modeling, commercial modeling. They all require a differen tlook. But most agencies will tell YOU what look you have. You will need a portfolio. A portfolio of your photos is needed so that agencies can see what you look like in print. Go to a photograher who is used to photographing models for portfolios so you can get the best shots. These can be expensive and run anywhere from 100 to thousands. Then you ll need Comp Cards which is basically a headshot on one side and 2 or 3 other picures on the back side of a paper. Some agencies just require and black and white headshot with a resume. I recommend you go to the library or bookstore and first read up on modeling and how to get into it before you spend any money. There are sharks out there who take advantage of young girls who are dumb about the modeling world. They will tell you how pretty and perfect you are for modeling, create a few business cards to make themselves look professional and next thing you know you standing in front of a pervert who wants you to take your clothes off. They know how desperate people are to get into the industry.Good luck!
