I have been told you can do a poor mans patent but writing it down, put it in an envelope and mail it to yourself (you would have to drop it in a post office box cause they won t take it out your mailbox sometimes with the same address on it). Then it will be post marked with the date that you came up with it and all on the envelope. DON T OPEN IT. Supposedly the post mark is a legal stamp and if some one tried to steal it from you then you could go to court (or just to a lawyer) and show them the envelope and post mark and let them open it or open it in front of them so they can see your plan inside and that it was your as of that date, so if they claim to have come up with it after that it is supposed to hold up...You might want to look in to this though. A lot of lawyers do free consultations so you could ask one how to do it also.
Write to the library of congress or contact a lawyer that you can trust. I would suggest doing some homework for a lawyer. Do not choose the first one you talk to.hope this helps!
