You first have to make a reasonable determination whether it is a scam.Providing your account information to an unknown third party is a huge money laundering risk, particularly where you are being asked to receive funds from foreign locations and remit cheques for a portion of the received amount to that third party. Inevitably the money you receive will be bounced (i.e. the cheque used to deposit into your account will be discovered to be fraudulent) and the funds you have paid out will be lost forever (you have probably sent them overseas!).Secondly, providing account information to an unknown third party may also open you up for identity theft - these days it is relatively simple to impersonate someone using just basic information (even a utility bill has enough information about you on it). So why risk it with providing them your bank account information??? Opening a bank account is even more risky given the amount of personal information that you need to provide to open a bank account these days.Finally, just a word of caution. If your employer is reputable (i.e. Walmart etc), there is no problem providing them a void cheque with your account information, or if you work for a reputable financial institution, opening an account with them.
