Im thinking of opening a pub, can anyone give me ideas of a unique theme or innovative ideas? -

The drinks industry in Edinburgh is pretty much low-growth, lots of similar pubs/clubs all competing mainly on price. I need a unique theme or ideas to pull the punters in. Any suggestions?

Do like what we do in the States... Make it a sports bar, complete with tons of widescreen TV s to watch the games. It is a VERY popular theme over here....

Have always wished bars/pubs had less table and chair set ups and more seating better conducive to socializing and relaxation. Would love to walk in to find the main area full of couches and easy chairs arranged in small areas with coffee tables and end tables onto which to set drinks. This could promote more interaction not only with people who came in together but would seem more inviting to others to sit and join others in small groups. Could be a great way to talk to and meet new people (one big reason some people go to pubs.) Could possibly lead to better sales also as if people are seated comfortably and a waitress comes to them, I feel they would be likely to stay for another round. For the furniture arrangement, I m picturing a larger version of some of the seating areas now commonly found in coffee bars. Surly, I would recommend furniture coverings that are easily wiped down for cleaning (buzzed people spill drinks) such as faux leather or vinyl.

Pubs are closing at the rate of 50+ per week in Britain at the moment, so are you sure you want to do this?Themed pubs seems to have a good spurt of business at the start and then the novelty wears of very quickly. One of the problems with having a theme is that you limit your market to people who are interested in that theme. You won t get good brewery discounts unless you have a big turnover amd then you have to pay public liability insurance, employers liability, PPL license, PRS license, gaming machine license, etc etc on top of your rent, rates, utility bills and staffing costs. Sky tv costs a couple of hundred a month, if you have it. With so much competition I don t see how you can make it pay in the middle of this recession.

Why not open one where you can smoke in secret and no food is served.Might catch on.

Topless waitresses?
