Accepting payments online. what is the process please? -

hi. im opening an online furniture business in the UK. i want to accept card payments, but dont want to use paypal.can you please tell me what the process is? my business account has been opened today. somebody mentioned that i need a merchant account and payment gateway. also need to access the payments within a week or so as i buy the goods after the customer orders them, rather then keep them in stock. xxall advice would be appreciated. thanks. x

What s your objection to using Paypal? Many on-line retailers use them. (We have for some time.) The only issue that we ve had, which I can understand might be a problem with the products you re selling is that they have a transaction limit of 650 for buyers who don t have a Paypal account. We looked at setting up a bureau account with Netbanx to get round this. They re UK based, you can speak to real people easily if you have questions and their fees are very reasonable. I think it takes up to 2 weeks to get your money through from them but that s quicker than most of the other providers. The other benefit of having a burea account with Netbanx is that you don t need a merchant account as well. Banks usually won t give you a merchant account until you ve been with them for 6 months. After 6 months with Netbanx you can apply to have a merchant account. It doesn t seem worth it, however, as the bank will charge you a fee for having the merchant account and you ll still have to pay your fees for payment transactions. As has been mentioned elsewhere, you ll need a shopping cart. We use Roman Cart. Not difficult to set up and they give you all the code to put into your website. In summary, therefore, you need a website, a shopping cart provider (check whether your hosting company provides one or check out Roman Cart) and a payment gateway such as Paypal or Netbanx.Good luck!

Before you can accept online payments you need to set up your shopping cart. You need to configure your store, put on products, refund policy, terms of use, have an actual address and then u can accept credit cards. You will need a merchant account AND a ecommerce gateway that will be programmer unto your shopping cart. You can either pay for a shopping cart, like yahoo shopping cart, xcart, volusion or you can use free open source carts, like virtuemart, magento, prestacart, shopify etc. Do a google search for open source shopping carts. For a merchant account, do a google search 4 merchant services UK and ask ur bank 4 reccomendations.

do people buy furniture online? never heard of any business succeeding in that are - how are you planning on shipping? and shipping costs will make any kind of furniture a lot more expensive and you won t be able to compete price-wise with any brick and mortar stores
